    America Declares War

"Across the airwaves, into our homes and hearts, we heard FDR's firm voice speaking the words we would never forget...On December 8, 1941, President Roosevelt stepped before Congress and asked it to declare war on Japan. Six and one half minutes later, they complied. The great light that burned over the White House driveway was turned off. And the lights would stay turned off all over the world for many years to come."

Radio message from Admiral Nimitz to fleet,

"Cease offensive operations against Japanese forces... continue search and patrols... Maintain defensive security... beware of treachery or last moment attacks by enemy forces or individuals."

The end of the war was at hand. Finally and at great cost to so many Allied forces.

My eternal gratitude to all those brave men and women.
