My VA volunteer story. . .

I didn't know where else to go to tell this story, and I hope you will understand. . . I am a volunteer at the local VA Medical Center and yesterday as I played piano for about two hours a young man came over and started talking with me. I swear he didn't look more that 17, but he must have been older. He was there because his back was broken in Iraq during "Operation Freedom", at least I think that's what he called it. He also had a badly damaged knee, and expected to be at the center for about a year. He wanted me to teach him to play piano, and I will try, although playing piano and teaching are different. While I was talking with him my heart was heavy and I thought, how many more? How many more? It made me so sad. I'm sorry to sound so depressed, but he really moved me.

Thank you for being a Volunteer at the VA Dee Dee.

It's hard not to have a Heavy Heart when you come across situations like that but as you know, all our Veterans need support.

I read in another post of yours that Your Husband is a Deceased United States Marine Corps Vietnam Veteran.

I am sure he is looking down at YOU, Proud and Smileing.

Thank you for all you do at the VA.

Do you play the guitar? I was locked up at the VA for 3 months and that mans guitar in the evenings did sooth me.

I can appreciate what you do.
