reserves..good choice?
Good morning Marines,
I've talked to a recruiter and basically AD right now is not an option. I have 3 dependants. So im considering going Reserves in the hopes of going AD in the future. Hopefully near future. I was wondering if going reserves is a good option or should I just go army for AD? I plan doing infantry but with the Marines ill do anything really. Anyone done/doing reserves? Do you fair compared to AD?
Thanks in advance Oscar

Try doing a search on the site.....reserves to active duty has been talked about before.
What it comes down to is......what do YOU want to do? The Marines here can only offer you advice, this is a choice that YOU have to make for you and your family.
Good luck to you.

Hey Oscar. I think the most important thing you should consider is WHY you want to be on active duty. That will tell you what your real need is here.
If the Army will take you on AD, and they suit your needs then go for it.
If it HAS to be the Marine Corps, then suck it up and go reserves. I honestly don't think you will be happy with that choice though.

The two (reserves vs active) have no comparison
One is a part time activity the other is the professionals
Reserves does have military basis and does provide some income
Do you want a hobby or a commitment ?

The reserves are much more than a hobby.

What if we called it a "spare-time activity?"

I'd call it a full time job and the higher up in rank you progress the more that it becomes your life

I would agree with that....no matter WHAT branch you would choose.
I know 'Guard bums' in the SNCO ranks who are basically 'Guard' in name only, they've been on active duty for YEARS with multiple deployments.
