Are 0311's and 0331's the only grunts?

I know there are many infantry MOS's, and each one counts, but is it only the rifleman and machinegunners that get the glory of being called a grunt? They see the most action compared to other MOS's yet there are still other people such as LAV crewman and assualtman, ect. that are infantry. So who is truly a grunt and who gets the glory?

Jacob - my advice... drop this "glory" and "true grunt" crap, the quicker the better... or you'll find a ready attitude adjustment is in order when you hit MCRD.

Well from what I heard they are the ones that instill it in your mind.

Why would this possibly matter? If you're joining to be called a grunt or get "glory" you're joining for the wrong reasons.

All 03s are grunts 0321 Recon.... You think they are fake grunts? 0317 Scout Sniper Let me guess phonies too. 0351 and 0352 are out there constantly patrolling and risking life and limb right next to everyone as well eh I guess no glory and they are posers.... Seriously who fed you this BS and why did you eat it all up. Sometimes I cant believe the quality of questions that we get. Ill leave it at that before I find you and haze your azz for ignorant thinking and telling a Major oh bootcamp is where they instill it in your mind like you have any idea what truly goes on there.

Not all Drill Instructors are 0311 or 0331, nor did they all necessarily want to be.

I never said they weren't grunts at all. That's why i was asking. I appreciate everything that everyone does, especially the 03xx, and everyone of them. In my mind they are all grunts. I was asking how it was in yours...It was a question not a statement.

It may have sounded like I was insinuating something wrong now that I read it over again, but trust me, I wasn't. Merely a question.( I ment the 03xx in the statement above when I said "in my mind they are all grunts")

    That's not why I'm joining, it's just a bonus.

    How old are you anyway????

You post all of the rhetorical questions:
    Which MOS should I choose?
    Rifleman vs. machine gunner?
Does a combat engineer go into combat?
    What are tabs on uniforms?
    Do combat engineers deploy?
And now are 0311s and 0331s the only grunts?

    What are you driving at?

You say your occupation is a Marine wannabe. Well, if you wannabe, get on down to the recruiter, ask him/her your questions, cut all these nonsensical questions, and join the Marine Corps.

If you're just a kid, do you homework and ascertain the answers for yourself. You will learn more and retain longer.

That's why I said "from what I hear" and it's what I hear from Marines.

It's only a question. If I would have known this would happen I would not have asked it in the first place. After all, this is called "ask a Marine", isn't it? Why would I talk to only one person when I can get the input of multiple Marines?
And yes I have talked to a recruiter, all things will happen in good time. For now I need information and this is where I can get it.

Here is the problem as I see it. You ask questions, fine. But you also state you have other sources, including recruiters, yet here you are asking questions about information you already have. Are you hoping to get answers that conform to some preconceived notion of being a Marine?

Many of us get scratchy when people bring up "glory" as it applies to combat or military service. "Gory" would be a better term. In the Corps there is no such thing as a "true grunt." Everyone is a rifleman. Some non-grunts get shot at, shot, screwed up, and generally get the crap scared out of them just as much, if not more than, many grunts.

You can get killed just as dead in some other MOS. You can ask my friend who was an 0431 (embarkation specialist). Wait, you can't, he was KIA.

    See my point?
