    Might not get desired MOS

I was just told by my recruiter that I might not get a job in Communications which is what I intended on getting. Is there any other job that I can that is similar to Communications? My second option was Mechanical Engineer, what exactly would I be doing in that field. Is it anything like a construction worker or more of a mechanic/shop type of thing?

I've read the job descriptions numerous times, but I just want some information from people who actually have experience in the job.

I can't help you with your questions, but I think you either missed you ship date or you had a typo.......

    What is your ship date?

You really didn't want 'comm' anyway, trust me. See what else is out there. Nothing like 'mechanical engineering' in the Marine Corps that I'm aware of.

Comm, lol. It's a very broad field, I'm surprised it's full.

Anyways, Sgt Lep, would 'mechanical engineering' be like a Generator Mech? I know you see these guys running around in certain units.

I appreciate your opinions and thank you for taking your time to look at my thread, but why exactly wouldn't I want Communications? I was told by my recruiter that they rank up quite fast. I chose it because to my knowledge I would be working with computers and I read that the MOS school is located in California which is a big plus for me.

I am suprised that your recruiter said the 'DB' Comm field was not available unless you did not qualify with your scores. You might want to check into the 'BA' program which is Aviation electronics.

Since I'm on vacation we talked over the phone. He said that I didn't qualify for it, but he thinks its a mistake. My AFQT score is a 74. I have a GT score of 106 and an EL score of 110. My vision is correctable to 20/20, and I'm not color blind. I might be missing something but I don't think anything would be disqualifying me.

Are you sure you're not talking about computer maint. The 2800 school is in 29 palms and the MOS requires a 115 EL score.

My recruiter didn't let me pick a specific job from each field. He said I should pick 3 different fields and he would see what I qualified for. Is this some sort of misunderstanding or mistake on his part? Or is that how it is for everyone?

The only other pre-req's that you did not mention for the Comm field are: Drivers lic. and US Citizenship. Both are required for that Program.
CM Construction Utilities has 2 different MOS Occ field in it
    1100 - Regrigeration Mech/ hygiene equip operator
1300- Engineer, Contruction, Facilities and Equipment.
    or Combat Engineer.

MSgt, I do not know what the "DB" option is, so maybe you could help educate us.

Hyster, If you are talking about work on programs, networking, system administration crap, then what you want to be is 0651 - Data Network Specialist (Not sure on the title).

When I joined, that was a "BX" option. This field enjoys EASing as much as reenlisting, so I wouldn't think they would be full, BUT I'm just making assumptions.

Now, I have always been told that Data requires a 110 GT score (My recruiter 5 years ago, fellow Marines), however I can't confirm this. I do know that I have higher than a 110. I have no idea on any requirements for the other COMM fields.

As far as Maintenence, the guys I worked with could never actually work on our computers due to warrantys. They always worked more on the radios and such.

As far as why you wouldn't want COMM, we aren't saying that. You just won't understand COMM until you are COMM. That said, it's like everything else in the Corps. It's what you make of it. As much as I hated working in COMM in an infantry battalion, I ****ing loved working in COMM in an infantry battalion. Take that as you see fit.

Anyways, ignore the **** I just said. You need GT 110 for Data. You fall 4 points short. Either retake your ASVAB, get a waiver, or choose another MOS. All 3 of those will require talking to your recruiter....

The BX Program no longer exists. You are correct on the 110 GT Score(0651-MOS Manual).
All of the 0600 Occfield has been combined into the DB Program. When a Marine shows up for MOS school at 29 they take into account the ASVAB scores and a placement exam to choose the MOS route each Marine is to take.

Alright thanks. I don't know what job in Communications I didn't get because my recruiter didn't tell me, he just said I didn't qualify for it. I appreciate your guys help. It seems I have to talk to my recruiter, and make him explain things more clearly. His exact words was " I'll have to call and find out why you didn't get it... But for now you're a engineer mechanic or something like that..."

    EDIT:
So you need a GT score of 110 to be permitted in the DB program?

The DB requirement is an EL of 100
The 0651-Data Networking Specialist MOS requires a GT of 110

Take it for what is is worth. You may not be qualified for a certain MOS but you may qualify for the Program Enlisted For. You Tracking?

That program has 12 MOS's in it that you could potentially be placed into.
