Seriously though, things that aren't glamorous about the Marine Corps:
    1. Friday night barracks duty
    2. formation
    3. field day
    4. field day inspections
    5. re-field day because you failed field day inspection
    6. having to stand out on a hot parade deck in the middle of summer in a color guard for a retirement ceremony of a colonel you've never met
    7. Having to be on a working party for a family day you could care less about
    8. Having to go to the rifle range at Quantico in December
    9. Having to be away from home on float for 7 months
    10. Getting back from a 7 month float and finding out you're already tapped to deploy to Afganistan in a few months
    11. Having to go through pre-deployment workups between the time you get back from float and the time you deploy to Afghanistan.
    12. Signing away "rights" like wearing sandals, getting whatever tattoo you want, and getting fat.

Are ya scared yet? [in my Yoda voice] "You will be. You will be."
You pretty much gave away all of the good secrets. Now what are new Marines going to get surprised about when arriving at their first duty station?

Honor,Courage, Commitment. Can't have one without the other. It takes all three. Find some if you have what it takes to be a Marine. Assess yourself.

    Completly the wrong attitude.

Come see us again next year when you grow up.

I am 21, like to work outdoors with my hands, and can learn and follow instructions. I do think that I would benifit from being allowed to serve my country.

This all being said i have a request: I want you to scare me away from the Marines. Tell me why I should not join, or would not want to. I have heard some sad and questionable things about how our armed service members have been treated in recent years and would like to know if they are true or just fearmongering. I am not looking for abuse, I am looking for informed opinions.

Respectfully awaiting responses, and Thank You in advance
You shouldnt want to be scared away. You either want to be a Marine or you do not, its as simple as that, and is not something you want to go into unless you are all in. Marines are not worried about how they are "treated"..You dont sound like someone who really wants it in my opinion.

How about being made to go through sensitivity training so you don't pi$$ off any muslims? For instance here are just a few examples:

never prop your feet up on a desk or chair (so as not to show the bottom of your boots)
never shake with your left hand
never take photos of muslim women
never speak disrespectfully of the qoran, the prophet Mohammed, or the muslim faith
never look at pornography in the presence of a muslim

Failure to abide by these rules (and many others) may result in disciplinary action. That right there is enough to make anybody think twice about serving in todays military! Wonder what kind of sensitivity training THEY are made to endure? If you said absolutely none you are correct of course!
