    What are billets?

I was reading the description for an MOS field I might be in and it says,

" A wide variety of FMF billets are available in the OccFld in the active and reserve forces at group, squadron/battalion, or battery level."

    Thanks for the help

FMF means Fleet Marine Force aka the Marine Corps, and a billet is a position within a field.

    Yea what McGuire said.

An example of a billet: designated marksman. You're still an 0311 but you get a longer ranged and scoped rifle. Another example is recruiter. You retain your old MOS and will return to it after a time, but for a certain period all you're doing is recruiting. Same with Drill Instructor, i believe. Those billets are also MOS's, but you can choose to switch to it as a permenant MOS if you want, but it's optional
