Very respectful post. I'm Navy so I can't comment on life after boot but I see you're going Aviation Electronics. Challenging field, a great preparation for when you leave the Corps. Good luck to you son

Man, just wait til you get to Japan! I never drank anything with a white snake in it til then and have never seen it again. Make sure to get pre-flighted in the E Club on base, then hit the streets of Iwakuni and go door to door.

Recruit Training To MCT a big difference, MCT to MOS Schools a big difference and then MOS schools to the Fleet is a big difference also, all the places you go is different in every way, once your in the fleet a while things begin to relax a little....

lol not the fun drinking... the "fml" drinking back in the day my recruiter who was airframes told me: "I'm not going to let you enlist as a mech because I hated life, this recruiting gig sucks but it's not as bad as the wing."

broceratops, don't start talking in the third person yet. You're still a human being.

I remember being in medical for broken ankles, eventually the physical therapist told this drill instructor that was always hanging around to get the hell away from her office so I'd stop trying to explain things in the third person. She made him GTFO and I could finally have an adult conversation about a medical issue. Point is, you'll have plenty of time to speak in the third person in front of the hats, don't rush.


As to your question you're gonna get the same answer pretty much everyone gets: it depends. Depends on your MOS, on your duty station, on your squad leader if you're a grunt or your section chief if you're a pogue. I know Marines that are in the office by 7am and leave at 4. I know Marines that work ten hours a day pretty much every day because stuff needs to get fixed and I know Marines that skate by on a 4-5 hour day unless they're in the field.

It depends. The variety of jobs, locations and superiors is so varied that asking what the average day is like for a Marine is like asking what the average day is like for a civilian. Too many variables to give a reliable answer.

Just try not to spend all your money every two weeks.

If you go avionics, be prepared for long working hours. Dont neglect doing PT on your own. Because of the mission, there may not be much organized PT. The wing is a totally different animal than the ground side. I have served on both sides of the house. You have an excellent MOS. If you can get into meteorology school, I would highly reccommend it.

9-4 aye? I've got a buddy on Pendleton, who seemed to work more of a 7-9 shift. Just saying... Everything isn't made out to be what your recruiters tell you. However. Its a hell of a experiene in life you can't get anywhere else!

Hey at least you get to be in Cali for MOS school. Although. I can't say Oceanside was any better then being in Missouri. Beside the ocean, they seem to be alot alike. Grungy bars, Marines everywhere, porn shops, liquor stores. Fat chicks.... People trying to sell you everything, including the kitchen sink for a 20% finance rate.

Yea that about sums up a new Marines life.
