I'm a Pfc at job school in Twentynine Palms CA and I'm trying to get all of my stuff squared away so I can stand out above all of my classmates. I'm looking for hints and tips on what makes a marine stand out and look extra squared away.

Be on time.make sure your uniform is always squared away..Just like boot camp listen and take notes and try to be first on all test you may have to take..
What ever you do do it well..
After you have been in the Corps a year or so you will realize that you should always be at least 15 minutes early for everything. Keep you uniforms in top shape and serviceable. If something looks worn spend your uniform allowance on your uniform not on liberty. Keep up the grooming standards you were taught in Boot Camp. Good luck to you.
1. Personal hygiene. Keep your body clean. Shave and shower at least once every day (more often if necessary). Fingernails must be clipped short and kept clean. Brush your teeth after each meal and use mouthwash. Your hair should always be combed and within regulation. No ear or nasal hair; keep eyebrows trimmed.
2. Uniforms. Remove all Irish pennants. Must be clean and pressed (except cammies) at all times. Ribbons must be clean, in the correct order, not frayed, and placed properly above the left breast pocket. Make sure your shirt and belt buckle are in perfect alignment at all times (military alignment or gig line). Replace your bootcamp-issued shirts with Creighton shirts and use shirt stays to keep the shirt tails tucked inside your trousers (blouse the back of the shirt to keep it from bunching up). Belts must be the proper length and clean. Any brass must be shiney with no scrtaches. All headgear and footwear must be clean and fit properly. Any jewelery like rings and watches must be clean and conservative.
3. Military bearing. Besides your uniform and personal appearance, your military bearing (the way you carry and conduct yourself) is important as well. It is an indication of your character. Cursing only means you cannot find the correct words to express yourself; don't do it (it never makes you appear tough). Never put your hands (or anything else) in your pockets. Never chew gum in uniform. Show proper respect to those of higher rank/authority.
4. Knowledge. You are in MOS (not job) school. Your primary mission is to learn (and do what you're told). Work hard every day at learning and studying. You will stand out if you're one of the top students in your class. Strive to be class honor man.
5. Miscellaneous. Keep your room and gear squared away at all times. Always be prepared for any inspections. Keep your gear secured.
