Disqualifying Questions

I am currently planning on enlisting into the Marines at the beginning of this September. I have yet to talk to a recruiter, but plan to as soon as i return to my home state in about a week. I have a few concerns however. First of all I have perforated eardrums, I know any surgery done on the inner ear is disqualifying, but was hoping to get a waiver for this. I have yet to get any surgery, I plan to within the next month depending on what my recruiter tells me to do. Does anyone know if receiving this waiver would be difficult?
Second, about five months ago I received a paraphernalia charge on my record, is this charge absolutely disqualifying or would I also be able to receive a waiver for this? I know both of theses questions could easily be answered by a recruiter, but I'm feeling a bit restless at the moment :confused:. Thanks for any responses.

The disqualifying medical conditions are listed below. The International Classification of Disease (ICD) codes are listed in parentheses following each standard.
The causes for rejection for appointment, enlistment, and induction (without an approved waiver) are an authenticated history of:


Middle and inner ear.

Current or history of chronic otitis media (382), cholesteatoma (385.3), or history of any inner (P20) or middle (P19) ear surgery (including cochlear implantation) is disqualifying.
Myringotomy or successful tympanoplasty is not disqualifying.

Thanks for the info, at least my perforated ears won't DQ me as long as my surgery is successful.

Tympanic membrane.

Current perforation of the tympanic membrane (384.2) or history of surgery to correct perforation during the preceding 120 days (P19) is disqualifying.

There are no doctors frequenting this website. If you have a medical question that hasn’t already been answered by searching the forums, you’ll have to contact a recruiting office. If they cannot answer your question, you may be directed to a medical representative from MEPS.

Again, read that one carefully. We are Marines (and a few Corpsman). We are not doctors. Medical questions will usually be answered by someone cutting and pasting a section from the about.com website.
