Well, there is obviously a change in attitude with new Marines these days.
After I finished ITR (that would be the equivalent of MCT to boots), I was sent to truck driver's school.
The schoolhouse was full
and the bunch of us were divvied up
and assigned to one of two places,
either the Area Guard or mess duty.
I got mess duty.
No new classes were forming for a month.
It's a *****, but oh well.
I spent two weeks on mess duty and
had to get my father to die
so I could get out of it.
I got back from emergency leave
just in time to join my scheduled class
otherwise
I would have been on mess duty for
God knows how much longer
as my class was the last
until after Christmas/New Years.
My point is,
waiting for your class to form happens all of the time
and has happened many, many times in the past.
I expect it will continue into the future. Stuff happens.
Embrace the suck.
Be glad they don't have mess duty any more.**
