Local grad one of Marines shot training in Kuwait

George Simpson Jr. of Riverside, one of the two Marines shot Tuesday in Kuwait, was in stable condition Wednesday, family members said.

"We don't know the prognosis, but he sounded pretty good," said Simpson's mother, Karin, who spoke to her son Wednesday morning.

Lance Cpl. Simpson, a 1999 Stebbins High School graduate, was shot in the left elbow Tuesday, when two gunmen drove up in a pickup truck and opened fire on Marines engaged in urban assault training on Failaka, an island in the Persian Gulf 10 miles off Kuwait City.
