Hello,

I saw the thread about your son being a machinist and i was just wanting to know if he was still in mct or if he has been sent to his duty station? I am currently in machinist school at Fort Lee, VA. The machinst field is a very small MOS, but our job in the Marine Corps is an important one. We learn how to operate The lathe machine, Milling machine, and then we learn to operate them through the CNC program which is basically the lathe and milling machine, but it is run by a computer instead of doing everything by hand. We are taught to make just about anything out of metal. Since i'm still a student, i dont know everything about how things will be in the fleet, but we can be put in just about any unit and when say someone from avaition or a mechanic needs a certain part made for a helicopter or a humvee, we can fabricate it out of a raw piece of metal. It takes a little getting used to, but the instructors here are the best teachers around and im sure your son will pick up on it quick. I am horrible at math but after a while of practice, things get a lot easier. I hope this helped with some questions you had, if you have anymore questions feel free to ask!
