Update; apperantly military personnel can buy tactical prescription sunglasses without much of the hassle i mentioned below https://secure.usstandardissue.com/Prescriptions.cfm

When your Platoon Sgt. hollers, liberty call! Then you can go to town. Unless liberty is restricted to on base only.

I would wait until after MCT because your expensive new prescription glasses might get ruined there. BCG's are perfect for MCT, SOI etc. because who cares if they get trashed?

Unless you plan on wearing ballistic sunglasses over contact lenses? the cool tactical sunglasses these guys are talking about do not come with corrective lenses made to order for you. For that you have to take them to an optometrist and tell them you want the lenses replaced with corrective lenses that they will grind to order using your prescription which should be stamped on the inside of the BCG's you were issued in boot camp. So bring the BCG's with you to the store (or the written prescription from your medical records) where you can then chose from polymer lenses that stay dark, or the transitional "get dark" (photosensitive) lenses, which are much more convenient and within regs according to that order LASW posted.

If you go to a strore like Binyon's or Lens Crafters it will be expensive for lenses only because they make money selling, yet offer the best deals on in store frame/lens combo's. So you might want to check out their frame selection first and you will get a better deal as opposed to spending $$$ on tactical non-prescription sunglasses that will just end up having the lenses traded out with new corrective, polymer lenses costing almost as much as those glasses you bought elsewhere, or more. I could easily spend over $600 buying from two different places and only end up with one complete pair of glasses

When you go to town for corrective sunglasses get the sturdiest pair you can find unless they're so ugly you just can't stand it. Marine Corps life is tough on eyeglasses. And when the sales associate asks if you want a glare and scratch resistant coating on your new poly lenses, i say yes! and pay the extra $20 dollars or so, it's worth it.
