I heard from Brian last weekend. He didn't sound too spiffy. I asked him how he was and he said, "Ready to come home"... I told him, "Well... gee, Son, I don't think they're gonna let you, just b/c you say you're ready." The good news is that they're supposedly going to get to come back by November in time for Thanksgiving, instead of after Christmas, like we expected. The bad news is that the reason why, is because they've lost so many of their men on the weapons and assult team. Yeah... that's the one Brian is on. They're down enough men, that they're not going out on as many missions. I thought they would just send them more replacements, but apparently not. The last two they sent got blown up last weekend. He was also upset b/c one of his and Raeann's friends, Jacob, had been following behind some guy they got blown to bits by an IED and it blew Jacob backward, and they flew him home b/c he had leg injuries (I guess the shrapnel from the device?).... Anyway... they flew him into San Antonio and Raeann had gone down last week to be with Francis, his wife, and they had to amputate both of his legs almost up to the hips. No one in Brian's company knew. Their commander had told them that he was "going to make a full recovery". And.. they didn't know any different, until Brian talked to Raeann and she told him. And he told everyone else. So.. they were all pretty "down". I explained that the commander was probably just trying to downplay it and not get morale down even farther. But... I guess that wasn't much consolation. Anyway... he says that in October they are supposed to go back to the main base (Camp Leatherneck, I guess) so... at least they'll be in a safer place, I hope.
