before I give you my opinion I want you to know that I am not in the military at all. I want to be, but I'm not sure you could even use my opinion in your paper. I do have a strong opinion about this and if you still want it anyhow let me know.

It would be ok if you used my reply. I had three MOSs 3537 being my primary MOS, 3538 Licensing SNCO, and 8411 a "B" Billet on recruiting duty. There were just no conflicts in my 20 years to be engaged in. However, had the nedd arisen I was ready and willing to defend your rights, my families rights and their lives with my blood if the need arose. I am very patriotic and I always have been. I will defend my nation at a personal cost. I would rather give my life for my family than have a dictatorship rule this great country. During my 20 years there were threats during the coldwar, I hope that is still taught in schools today this was a real threat with some nutcase somewhere around the world willing to die for their cause or some hair trigger nutcase. I am very honored to have served my country. However, I disappointed that I have never been to battle. I seems to me that it is my place to be where the younger Marines are. I should be in their place. I have been told that this is a survivor guilt that I cannot get rid of it will stay with me until the day I die. It is my place to defend our country. Sorry for the rant there at the last but if you were a Marine you would understand my convictions to God, Country, Corps and Family. The Marine Corps is a family a cult if you will.

Having served in the Marine Corps for 20 years but never been to combat I have a opinion that if a woman wnats to serve in combat that it would be ok if the following are adhered to:
1. No special treatment or consideration becasue she is female.
2. A female needs to pull her own weight. In other words what a male is capable of the female should also be capable of.
3. The rules of male female relationships would be a challenge there should be no retribution to eather sex if and this usually happens when males and female are together in close quarters, there will be sex and it cannot be avoided on either part. This brings on a new set of rules that have never been tested so this would be very challenging to Marines on the ground.
4. I fone of my sister were to go into a combat situation I would hope that a fellow Marines would take care of her as I would but there is no gurantee of this. The priority in combat is to if needed kill the enemy but the utmost important this would be to keep eachother alive. If you and I were in the same ground infantry unit and I became wounded would you be able to evacuate me to a much needed first aid/corpsman? I am 6 foot tall and 230 pounds.

I see it as some restrictions that need to be worked out. There have been women that have recently served a combat roll, i.e., security detail in convoys and security for female search and seizures, body searches that sort of thing.
