    What's Special About a Marine?

    Author: unknown

    Page1

Ask a Marine what's so special about the Marines and the answer would be "Esprit de Corps", an unhelpful French phrase that means exactly what it looks like - the spirit of the Corps, but what is that spirit, and where does it come from?
The Marine Corps is the only branch of the U.S. Armed Forces that recruits people specifically to fight.

  2. While some people take it for granted, i never did.

I was born in Puebla Mexico in a beat up small town with no cars and only dirt roads. I came to the United States when i was about nine years old and have loved it here ever since. I was always fascinated by watching Police Officers arrest bad guys and do whats right. Of course i was the first generation of my family to live here in the united states so my family expceted me to do something productive with my life.
When i was in highschool it was around when September 11 happened. I started ...

  3. Why I chose to be a Marine.

I'd like to post a few comments about the recruiting approach of the Corp vs the other branches of the service and why I chose to be a Marine.
If you recall the recruiting posters over the years, you'll remember that the Army pushed choice over chance in regards to a career path. The Navy offered adventure, travel, etc. The Air Force invited you to join the space age. Thier msgs/appeals have varied over time, trying to find the right mix to attract recruits. I notice that the

  4. My buddy's rants

This is a couple emails my buddy sends out. I DID NOT WRITE THIS. I am just posting it here to see what others think.

Most of you know I follow politics. Not the die hard, not the “oh this is popular” bandwagon either. I have my beliefs, as do you. Here is my view on some things:

Celebrities endorsing politics in like saying porn stars are real actors. I would like to see the bank accounts (all accounts) and see who was paid to endorse President Barrack Obama. Why is it that ...

  5. Can I Make It Through USMC Boot Camp?

[B] :usmc:There comes a time in life when you will ask yourself if you have what it takes to be a U.S. Marine. This question is a rather easy one to answer, but a very complex one to explain. From the outside the Marine Corps is spoken of as if it were near impossible to gain entry into it. Today because of the many movies, video games, and internet sources many people both civilian and military have many misconceptions about what the Marine Corps is like and what it takes to make it as a Marine. ...

  7. Uniforms Aren't Just Uniforms

I recently read an ALMAR about the prohibiting the stopping off base while wearing utilities. Now, for you old timers that isn’t new news. In fact, some remember when you were just barely legal stopping to change a tire while still in utilities. Although, you might want to keep in mind, most of those folks just barely remember what time they need to take their medications.

Wearing your Class “A” uniform has always been a sense of pride for most Marines. It seems there’s just something

  8. The Beginning Of Time

In the beginning was the word, and the word was GOD, and all else was darkness and void and without form. So God created the heaven and earth, he created the sun, the moon, and the stars so that light might pierce the darkness. On the earth God divided the land and the sea, and this he filled with many assorted creatures. The dark salty creatures that inhabited the murkey depths of the oceans, God called sailors and dressed them accordingly, with trousers that looked like bells at the bottom and ...

  10. History of Marine Corps Recruit Training

For most of the Marine Corps’ history, there was no highly structured program of instruction for Marine recruits, such as we know today. Only in the last 90 years have there been centralized recruit depots with the mission of transforming civilians into basically trained Marines prepared to perform on the battlefield.

Early Marine recruit training was conducted at various posts and stations by noncommissioned officers who trained recruits in the “principles of military movements” and ...

  12. Marines Riflemans Creed

This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me my rifle is useless. Without my rifle, I am useless. I must fire my rifle true. I must shoot straighter than the enemy who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will. My rifle and I know that what counts in war is not the rounds we fire, the noise of our burst, or the smoke we make. We know that it is the hits that count. ...

Almighty Father, whose command is over all and whose love never fails, make me aware of Thy presence and obedient to Thy will. Keep me true to my best self, guarding me against dishonesty in purpose and deed and helping me to live so that I can face my fellow Marines, my loved ones, and Thee without shame or fear. Protect my family.

  15. Women Marines

In secret, Lucy Brewer became the first woman to serve in the Marine Corps. Disguised as a gung-ho man, she served in the Marine Detachment aboard the USS Constitution during the War of 1812.

Over 100 years later on 12 August 1918, the Secretary of the Navy granted authority to enroll women for clerical duty in the Marine Corps Reserve. The next day, Opha M. Johnson enlisted and became the first official Woman Marine.
