I am kind of nervous about hitting the Fleet. I am going to be joining 38 MACG, 3rd MAW in a few days and I want to put in my 110% when doing my job. I just wanted to get an idea of what to expect when I get there, what they expect of me, how liberty and leave works ( My family lives 2 hours from Miramar), and what I can do to excel and impress (If I can). Someone put me at ease here!

"I want to put in my 110% when doing my job"
You hit the nail on the head. Listen to your NCO's and give your best and you will learn the ropes. Miramar is a nice base. They've got great chow, nice gyms, new barracks, and great opportunities for you to get some off duty education. San Diego. Need I say more? The Wingers are usually working 12 on 12 off schedules and the mission is to make Jets fly. As a Box-Kicker you will probably be pretty busy making sure the units are getting what they need. Leave and Liberty are much more abundant than you've experienced in training and with the family so close you will have ample opportunities to go home and give Mom a hug and chase Suzy. ![]() Keep a good attitude and stay out of trouble. Most young Marines down there get in trouble with underage drinking and trying to play in Tijuana. DON'T Do It! Welcome to the Corps Devil Dog. Semper Fidelis. ![]() Learn from where you've been and focus on where you're going. |

Thank you very much Master Sergeant.
I have been a Fleet Marine for only three weeks but I love the Fleet. I am in the most squared away section in my unit, and my NCO's are setting me up for success. We get up at 0500, PT every day at that time, and we go home at 1630. We are also hiking monthly, and all of this gets me excited about the future of my career. Again, thank you for the advice, and have a good day Master Sergeant. Oorah! |

I was a 3043, First thing you do, go to the Navy Supply office, Where the US Navy SK's work. Ask for a Navy Supply publication called the "Bible" (NAVSUP P-485) Get one,, read it !! ,, Memorize it !! ,, and all the promotion manuals that the Navy SK's need to read to get promoted, including the BIBLOGRAPHY, Pars, That will make you the Smartest 3043 in the Marine Corps !!
