What a pleasure it is gentleman to enter a class room where a senior Kaydet calls attention, all stand when I enter. There are no cell phones allowed, they respond with a sir, they are all in uniform and if they had an attitude, it was checked at the door

History was a love of mine. I don't know why I did not pursue becoming a teacher of American History. I would have made a good history teacher. I dislike people who try to rewrite history, on the other hand, the effort of past hisorians to try and make the United States appear to have no faults bothers me.

Dan,
Must be nice to get respected that way in your class room. I teach some of the math and physics classes at local colleges and I am lucky if they are present and if so not texting all through class. I was told NEVER again to collect and depot their phones in the sh!tcan to be collected after class. Guess I overstepped my bounds (again!) LOL.

Larry, I've had the pleasure to teach at both VMI and The Citadel. There is nothing like the respect you get dealing with military institutions. On the other hand I've also taught at CC's and liberal art colleges where I ran into the same problems you've encountered. Cell phones are big problem. I did try telling them to turn them off, most complied but there are always a few.... And their lap tops, some of these kids are sporting $2000 Mac Books. I had a talk with a custodian last month, he told me just in the Law School they found 18 lap tops in one week that "students" left behind. Amazing

Being a country boy and used to hog killings, I don't think the things we did were related to first aid.

Don't remember if it was prior to, during or after Mojave Viper that my nephew had to deal with live/almost live pigs prior to deploying to Afghanistan. His pig was shot - - they had it breathing and heart working ok - - SgtMaj came along shot it again - - got the pig going again - -you get the picture. He said it was VERY realistic training for battle field situation.

Got all wrapped up in PIGS - - didn't say what I've been doing.

Took my early/ancient electronics training from the Corps and parlayed it into an outstanding career with HAL. Twas an easy transition from vacuum tubes and sign waves to transistors and square waves. Spent all but three of my years in management. Total time was 28 years 10 months. Moved all over the USA chasing that dream. Wow, what a ride. Good news is I didn't have the same job for those years. Changed functions approx each 2 years. Last assignment was managing Management Development. Even did some consulting on the side. It finally happened - - burn out. I retired at 51.5 years of age and have never looked back. Each month when my check hits the bank, we are even.

After I moved to NW TN, I told my accountant to declare me out of business. I had been running thru airports and living out of a suitcase for too many years. I still enjoy the occasional class work helping out at the local college, but still find it difficult dealing with folks that really don't want to be there.

"You ask what time it is and I've told you how a clock works." LMAO

I understand these pigs are sedated and never feel anything. Apparently the substance used to make sure the pigs do not suffer is so strong they dispose of the pigs because it is probably not safe to comsume the pigs.

"Animal labs" are not uncommon in the military. When I was a paramedic (mid-1980s), I was invited to participate in a "goat lab" sponsored by the AF pararescue unit at my old Air Guard base. They were specifically going to train in tracheotomies and cricothyrotomies. Evidently goat tracheas are anatomically very similar to human tracheas.

The goats would be anesthetized by a veterinarian first, and humanely put to sleep afterward.

Unfortunately, I could not adjust my police work schedule to attend the lab. I was bummed.

Met my wife while at Lejeune. Came back to eastern N.C when I left Oki and we married. Been in this area ever since.
Been married 13 years, separated and reconciled with two curtain climbers.
When I got out I tried turning wrenches for a bit. Decided the pay sucked and the tools cost a fortune. Tried car sales. Did very well, but couldn't stand selling people what I knew they really couldn't afford. A friend suggested insurance, so I decided what the heck. That lasted a year and I decided that I really didn't like it so I became a truck driver.
Truth be told, our marriage was so bad I just wanted away from the woman. The job actually saved the marriage. After several years of long haul I landed a job with an international company that has a terminal near home that allows me to be home just about every day, or night. Been here 4 1/2 years. The move has been great for the family having dad around. It has also allowed me to get 2 1/2 years of ministry school in and serve in multiple areas in our church.
If it wasn't for the Corps, I never would of gotten out of western PA.

After the Corps I worked as a heavy equipment mechanic while using my GI bill to get a degree in architecture.
Laid off 3 years ago, decided to get back into the military, (National Guard) as an officer this time.
Just left a temp job working as a mechanic again, so I could spend some time with the family before my all expense paid trip to sunny Afghanastan.

Can't remember if I posted to this thread already but here goes.

After the Marines, I went to Vo-Tech for auto-mechanics on the GI bill. Spent one year as a wrench. Realized that being a Mechanic for someone else only made them rich. Didn't have the money to start my own shop so I started driving OTR trucks like my Mom & Dad did as a team. First wife and I divorced because she cheated on me while I was on the road. Quit my job, and bummed off relatives for a year.

Then tried sewing machine repair. Made the mistake of asking out a woman at work who was dating the married manager on the sly. That ended that.

Went back into OTR trucking. Had a boss who thoughht a weekend at home was Saturday afternoon till Sunday afternoon. Had to run two log books to stay legal when stopped by DOT. Got burned out on that job after my dispatcher lied to me one to many times, and I told them where to put their job.

Bummed off relatives again for about a year, While going to Business Management at the local Technical College. Then tried retail management for a year. I guess my Marine bull-headedness got me into trouble because I can't seem to tolerate stupid, or inconsiderate people. Pizzed off the district manager and he had me fired.

Then got a job as a Machine Operator for a packaging company for 5 years. That went away after a battle of wills with the new plant manager.

In the middle of all this I managed to get Married, and divorced twice more.

Back to OTR trucking for 14 years, met my current Wife, then found a job as a Redi-mix concrete truck driver. Finally found my nitch (sp). Been doing that for 10 years now. I get to see the area grow and change, and am a part of it. Leaving a legacy in poured concrete all around a three county area. Whenever possible I flip a penny into the mixture. Then I can truly say I have money in this or that building. LOL I must have money in several hundred places by now. LOL Redi-mix is rewarding, but if you don't like getting muddy, wet, and sweaty it aint for you. Have finally reached that point in life where I make enough so I can afford to take winter layoff and stay warm. SF

After getting out of the Corps in 1974,I used the GI Bill to attend 4 years of electrical apprenticeship in Houston. Worked for various contractors in the area before starting my own company. That went belly up in the oil crash in 1988,so hit the road for work, ended up seeing a lot of the country while making a living. Retired early after 4 back surgeries, and have been absolutely enjoying life with my 3rd wife. We live full-time in a 34 foot motorhome, spend the summers in Michigan, and the winters in Texas and Florida. Got no money, but we stay warm all year! Also nice 'cause I love ridin' my Harley!! Couldn't have done any of this without the attitude the Marine Corps instilled in me. Semper Fi!!

Dept of Army Police Sergeant 04-Present

I applied for the Dept of Army Police. Thought I was a solid fit. I gave them my military resume showing my duties as a MSG w/ a TS clearance and a Corrections background in the Corps. Also I was in the Army Reserves as a MP and completed MP School w/ a secret clearance. Even gave them POC's to my old Command as references. Of course i got this from them " Your resume did not reflect the highly qualifying criteria the selecting official identified as necessary for successful performance in the position."

Right now I am unemployed and waiting to hear back from Northrup Grumman and also putting in a packet to get back into the Marine reserves and then hopefully go back Active Duty.

I'm not surprised. Unless your resume reflected....EXACTLY the wording in the hiring announcement....it won't make it through no matter WHAT you did/have done. Likely it was never even SEEN by a human being, the computer didn't find 'key words' it needed, so it got dumped and you got the standard rejection message.

What can I say, it's the army. Totally and completely jacked up.

Got out of the Corps, went out to the power plant complex with a high school buddy of mine who said I could talk to his boss about a job. Funny, when he first met me, he said my buddy told him I had just got out of the military...he then asked what branch, I told him "Sir, just got out of the Marine Corps"...he replied "You're hired" and told my buddy to find me something to do.

Worked my way from power plant laborer to nuclear plant operations, then fossil operations, now back at nuclear as a Work Week Manager (basically coordinates all plant maintenance, schedules for repairs, surveillance/testing, risk analysis, etc).

Another funny story...we had a meet and greet with a new plant manager years ago when I was in nuclear operations. We all sat around a conference table giving a basic description of background. Realize, I'm the only Marine in a department of ex-Navy nuclear guys/gals. The questions got around to me, I stated I was a former Marine. He laughed and asked "how did you sneak in here"! One of the guys on my shift replied "we don't know, but we're glad he did!". I told him I was there to make sure everyone did their jobs to standards:-)

Reading above...as far as resume' goes...my company's processes use the same method via computer/recruiter. You have to write the resume' based on the hiring announcement and use words/phrases accordingly wherever possible to get the best results. Unless, you can find someone on the inside to ensure your resume' gets onto someone's desk.

Yea, huge life change lol. One day while I was majoring in biology I took a physics course, and everything clicked. I immediately knew what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. My strong physics subject is Quantum Mechanics, but lately I've been really focusing on particle physics (which of course is alot of Quantum Physics). Its good to know I'm not the only science geek on this site lol. I've had 3 jobs since I got out of the Corps. First one, I was a Project Coordinator at Emerson Computer Parts (this was back when they made these HUGE battery units for computers) in Santa Ana, CA.

Moved back to the East coast and went to work for Olan Mills (photgraphy - I made appointments for folks to come in and be photographed). Stayed with them for 9 years and transferred to GA only to eventually get downsized out.

Been in GA for 18 years. After Olan Mills, I got THE best job I could have ever landed and I've been with them for 12 years. I'm a Receptionist/AP Clerk for a construction company.

Sounds like a good plan. Any flying questions you may have feel free to send me a message. I used my GI bill to get all my ratings while I was still in. I got a flight instructing job right out of the Corps and was working for a regional airline 10 months later.

My brother in law is on the rotary wing side of the CG on the Dolphin going on 9 years now. Combined total time away from home (not counting training) is less than 7 months I believe. He is working off the back of a cutter as we speak with his helicopter. It is his longest tour yet at I believe two months and its to the desolate land of the Caribbean. This will be his only tour he has done in the last 4 years. There was supposed to be a few others but they canceled prior.

Electrical Engineer: Electronic Circuit design, Automotive safety applications. Airbag controllers, Side impact sensor, side impact pressure sensors. I worked in the defense industry for 6 years prior to entering the automotive industry. In the defense industry my area of expertise was Missile Inertial guidance and and Aircraft Inertial Navigation, I also did a couple of years at one company designing test equipement for sonobuoys.
I must say that I would have never entered this field or had this career without my experience in the Marine Corps. Which set me down the path of a career in electronics. I used the G.I. Bill to get a BS in Electical Engineering after my tour of service, after graduating in 86, I entered the defense electonics industry. I saw the defense industry as an extension of my military service in different form (far better paying, and in a very abstract way it was sort of like being an officer). Due to the state of defense electronics industry in 92 and for financial survival I entered the commercial automotive electronics industry. I always regret leaving the defense industry, although there wasn't that much choice at the time.
I always felt that I got much more out of the Marine Corps then they got out of me.

Got out of the Corps in Jan, 70 at Treasure Island, CA., after spending 3 months at Oak Knoll Hospital. Accidentally wound up working in the retail grocery business for 8 years, before having an accident in one store that aggravated a knee injury from Nam.
Went to school, and ended up working in product development in Silicon Valley. This went well until 2009, when I had to have that knee replaced.
Been unemployed since. It's tough in the job market, but tougher if your over

Ever forward.

When I would become burned out from that I tried, Meat packing plant worker, sewing machine mechanic, shoe salesman, redi-mix concrete truck driver/asst manager, discount dept store asst manager, packing machine operator, used car salesman, welder, metal fabricator, farm hand, and packing plant worker. In between each job I would invariably go back to OTR. Currently a Redi-mix concrete truck driver again, but starting to miss the open road.
