The Department of Defense has announced the 2010 holiday mail deadlines.
For economy-priced packages for forward-deployed troops throughout the world, the recommended deadline is Nov. 12; for space-available mail, Nov. 26; for parcel airlift mail, Dec. 3; for priority and first-class mail, letters and cards, Dec. 10; and for express mail military service, Dec. 18.
Mail to Iraq and Afghanistan should be sent a week earlier than these deadlines, according to reports. For these locations, the following items are prohibited: horror comics and obscene materials including films, prints, and cards; anything depicting nudity, pornographic items, or unauthorized political materials; bulk quantities of materials contrary to Islam; and pork or pork by-products.
