Mornin' Marines.....

I thought I would just say 'hello' and maybe connect with some who were in Nam same time I was.
I left Long Beach, Ca. on the USS Princeton LPH-5 attached to BLT 1/5.
I was in W/2/11 being 4.2 Mortars.
We offloaded in Chu Lai after Op Osage and the following year is history.

All my Ops were with the Fighting Fifth beginning with Op Jackstay in March '66, Op Osage in April '66, Op Apache in June '66 Op Colorado in Aug '66 and several others.
I was there during Howards Hill 488 melee but we were just out of range and could not assist.
I was wounded on 9/11/66 and survived a friendly fire incident while on an LP.
Enough about me.

So...if any from my era want to check in and share some experiences I'd be interested.

If you are sitting on the cooler then you are the defacto bar-tender. I'll take a corona and some pretzels.

I see several here are ready for nocturnal libations.
A shot of Cuervo 1800 might compliment our itinerary also.
I'll eat some pretzels....salt is good for us if we are imbibing and we'll need all the help we can acquire.

I was based north of Chu Lai at Hill 35 fire base between Tam Ky and Hoi An and a bit west.
It was also 3/5 CP area.
We did Ops from there.

Thanks to all for chiming in.

I was beginning to wonder if i would ever hear from a Marine i served with in Nam. I was also with W-2-11. Hill 35, gun section 5. We may have been involved in the same friendly fire incident. Welcome home and welcome aboard Marine:beer:

Mornin' all...

Yes wsky9er....that was us.
I remember you and that night very well and have documented that experience.
It was 7/9/66 at about 04:30 and still pretty clear in (what's left of) my mind.

Thanks for chiming in.

wsky9er.....

You may have noticed that I have also added my pics to Curt Wagoners gallery link noted in your signature.
The album titled 'Very graphic images open at own risk' were taken by Janech when we were on patrol the morning after we were overrun on 6/20/66.
He gave me copies which remained in a sealed envelope for over 40 years.
I see my experience as a 'documentary' and war is brutal and ugly....and everyone loses.

Yep....I'm in Santa Clara, Ca.
You still rubbing elbows with the rich and famous at the country club in San Francisco?
I've got my own weights set up in my garage but I'll bet it's more fun working out at the country club...ha.

Wow....you're on the right coast now.
Well...I plan on retiring 12/31 this year.
I thought I was apprehensive about boot camp....retiring may trump that experience.
I was at Marine Barracks, Moffett Field for my last 1 1/2 years so I've lived in countless places in Mt View, Palo Alto and Sunnyvale.
Thanks for checking in.

Yea...well...I am a 'former' Marine but never made the 'Rock Star' status.
Although, I did give it a good shot during my live band days in the 70's - early 80's.
Those guitars are my mistresses and have been through much with me over the years.
Yes...my wife knows of these 'mistresses' I speak of.

On the left is a 1977 Ibanez Telecaster purchased just before Fender sued their asses for copyright infringement.
On the right is a 1973 Guild D40 acoustic.
My third axe is a Martin copy acoustic.
