In the wake of the sad news that Tony Curtis has died of a heart attack, fans and celebrities from various corners of Hollywood are paying their respects to this fine actor, true movie star, six-time husband and man who, courtesy of “Some Like It Hot,” turned dressing in drag into a touchstone for cinematic comedy.

Curtis's daughter, Jamie Lee Curtis -- who lost her mother and Curtis's first wife, Janet Leigh, to cardiac arrest in 2004 -- issued the following statement.

“My father leaves behind a legacy of great performances in movies and in his paintings and assemblages. He leaves behind children and their families who loved him and respected him and a wife and in-laws who were devoted to him. He also leaves behind fans all over the world.”
On Twitter -- the equivalent of the world's online funeral guest book -- the topics Actor Tony Curtis and RIP Tony are currently trending, as fans of both the regular and famous variety pay tribute to the actor, whose film career reached its summit in the 1950s. Contemporary celebrities that span the gap from Simon Pegg to Kelly Osbourne to Nia Vardalos have expressed their condolences in Tweet form.

“RIP Tony Curtis - 1st actor we spotted when we moved to LA,” wrote Vardalos. “He was rockin' a bolero jacket at Spago. Ah, perfect.”

Roger Moore, Curtis's co-star on the series “The Persuaders,” told Sky News: “You never think that friends are going. I'm very sad and also sad for his wife because she adored him.”

Here in Celebritology, we'll leave the well-chosen words of affection for Curtis to others. All we have to say is: Here. Watch this.
