Hello all,
I am leaving in four days for MCRD San diego. I've been enlisted for a while but was thinking I was leaving in February so I just read my General orders every night....Now I leave in 4 days and am searching for a quick way to help memorize them. Any tips?

I'm trying to get mine all memorized also! I wasn't supposed to leave until March, but i got thrown onto the Sep 20th boat. See you there! :no:

Read them out loud, write them down, rinse, repeat! The writing really helps.
I memorized them in ISS for school :bunny:

if you say them out loud, and keep that up for like 15 minutes, they'll be burned into your memory. the only reason I have them memorized is because we stand in formation and repeat them for like 15 minutes before every pool function while everyone is arriving

I sat with my wife and handed her the booklet my recruiter gave me. We spent about three weeks memorizing everything. She knows the rank and insignias by heart, and the general orders, just like me!
Do them out of order, and at random, writing helps. I would get with another poolee and work on it together.
I am leaving on 9/20 as well, I am in Alpha Company.

I just recently had this problem too, but this way, I had them memorized in a day.
First, memorize the 6th General Order, it's the 'first' of the two longest (6 and 11)
Then, memorize 1-5, then, after your sure you know 1-5 by heart, then memorize 7-11, this way, at the very least you won't mix up General Orders 1-5 with 7-11, so now, you have just memorized 2 smaller sets of 5 general orders rather than just trying to memorize 11 in total, because humans have a problem memorizing more than 7 (I believe) individual items at the same time.
Don't forget the JJDIDTIEBUCKLE, and the Enlisted, Officer, and WO ranks sequence and their designs.
It's really not that hard, I memorized them all within a day.

I ship to boot tomorrow as well! I'm coming from Vegas though, so I leave tomorrow, and I'll be at MEPS on Monday, so, whoever you are, I will see you there!
