Hm, frankly, I'm surprised there hasn't already been a thread made about this here in the Poolee forum...

All I think I need to do here is to repeat these immortal words:

"Are you guys ready? Let's roll."

-Poolee Pike

Really Poolees?

I'm a little disappointed. Not seeing a single comment about this in the Poolee forums is only starting to confirm my fears that Americans indeed are starting to forget.

September 11, 2001.

Remember this?

"Today, our fellow citizens, our way of life, our very freedom came under attack in a series of deliberate and deadly terrorist acts. The victims were in airplanes or in their offices: secretaries, business men and women, military and federal workers, moms and dads, friends and neighbors. Thousands of lives were suddenly ended by evil, despicable acts of terror. The pictures of airplanes flying into buildings, fires burning, huge -- huge structures collapsing have filled us with disbelief, terrible sadness, and a quiet, unyielding anger. These acts of mass murder were intended to frighten our nation into chaos and retreat. But they have failed. Our country is strong. A great people has been moved to defend a great nation. Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America. These acts shatter steel, but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve. America was targeted for attack because we're the brightest beacon for freedom and opportunity in the world. And no one will keep that light from shining. Today, our nation saw evil -- the very worst of human nature -- and we responded with the best of America. With the daring of our rescue workers, with the caring for strangers and neighbors who came to give blood and help in any way they could.
Immediately following the first attack, I implemented our government's emergency response plans. Our military is powerful, and it's prepared. Our emergency teams are working in New York City and Washington D.C. to help with local rescue efforts. Our first priority is to get help to those who have been injured, and to take every precaution to protect our citizens at home and around the world from further attacks. The functions of our government continue without interruption. Federal agencies in Washington which had to be evacuated today are reopening for essential personnel tonight and will be open for business tomorrow. Our financial institutions remain strong, and the American economy will be open for business as well.

The search is underway for those who were behind these evil acts. I have directed the full resources of our intelligence and law enforcement communities to find those responsible and to bring them to justice. We will make no distinction between the terrorists who committed these acts and those who harbor them.

I appreciate so very much the members of Congress who have joined me in strongly condemning these attacks. And on behalf of the American people, I thank the many world leaders who have called to offer their condolences and assistance. America and our friends and allies join with all those who want peace and security in the world, and we stand together to win the war against terrorism.

Tonight, I ask for your prayers for all those who grieve, for the children whose worlds have been shattered, for all whose sense of safety and security has been threatened. And I pray they will be comforted by a Power greater than any of us, spoken through the ages in Psalm 23:
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil for you are with me.This is a day when all Americans from every walk of life unite in our resolve for justice and peace. America has stood down enemies before, and we will do so this time. None of us will ever forget this day, yet we go forward to defend freedom and all that is good and just in our world.

Thank you. Good night. And God bless America!"

If no one recognized the words of Todd Beamer that I posted, that makes me very sad. "Let's roll" was the rallying cry of a generation of Americans who stood up to fight against the terrorist threat. Songs, bumper stickers, shirts, etc, you saw this all over the place.

The morning of 9/11/01, I woke up after hearing my mom say, "America has been bombed!" I had no idea what that actually meant. When I heard "Bombed" all I could think of was WWII bombers dropping their payloads onto a military site. I had no idea what terrorism was. I had no idea that such utter cowardice existed in our time. So watching video footage of planes crashing into the WTC, I was horrified.

On that day, and in the many following days, even years, stories continued to pour out about the evil men behind this, and the heroes who reacted to it.

Todd Beamer and the members of flight 93. They prevented the flight from hitting another target, instead sacrificing their own lives and crashing the plane into the ground in a field.

Rick Rescorla. Hero of the Vietnam Nam War, pictured here on the front of the book "We Were Soldiers Once, and Young". Decades after leading his men to victory in Ia Drang, he saved the lives of over 2,000 people in the World Trade Centers. Go read his story here, it's worth your time: http://www.mudvillegazette.com/archives/000307.html

Over 300 firefighters gave their lives saving people from the burning WTC. They kept climbing higher and higher into the buildings, knowing that they wouldn't be coming back down. Entire stations of men were killed.

Mohamed Atta, one of the Hijackers.

If you don't pass on the history of our generation to your kids, then 9/11 will just be another lesson lost forever. Remember the horror. The depraved evil. The heroism.

I could go on for pages about this. But I leave you with this:
Poolees, fellow Americans, NEVER FORGET.

-Poolee Pike

*Note: I am not accusing every person on here of forgetting what happened on September 11th, 2001. However the lack of a single post on here, a forum for future members of our nations Military service, is just a symptom of what's happening in our culture. You guys are the ones who have a reason to be proud. You're volunteering to serve to bring justice to people like the one's behind 9/11. Don't ever let yourself become anything like the products of modern American culture and our school system. People don't care anymore.

**If anyone needs a good refresher, I would highly recommend the National Geographic documentary "Inside 9/11". Covers a lot of stuff that you may not actually remember from back when it happened. Well worth your money and time.

***Most of y'all don't recognize me, as I haven't done much posting on these boards in a couple of years. However I've become active again due to having finally enlisted in June.

I don't think its really a matter of forgetting, I could be wrong, but possibly some poolees (like myself) remember in their own ways. Not everyone chooses to post about it and thats ok in my book. I will never forget! It had a huge impact on me and still gives me motivation to graduate bootcamp. :iwo:

I still can't look at those pictures or watch videos of it. It kills me that kids younger than us see that as only history. That is a day that will never leave my mind.
