So, I thought it would be appropriate to make a thread to compile all of the quotes, pictures, and videos that we, as poolees, find motivating. That way, in our times of weakness, we have something to resort to and remember exactly what we're working so hard for.

I think it also serves as a good way to remember all those who perished 9 years ago, on September 11th, 2001, and the men and women who've fought and died for our country in the War on Terrorism... Post pictures, videos, quotes and for every first post, make sure you add in a paragraph of WHY you want to be a Marine and what keeps you from giving up. That way you can always look back on it, and remember what YOU are fighting for.

I love my country, and I feel there is no better way of serving my country than with the most elite fighting force in the world as a Marine. It would be an honor to wear that title, knowing that I EARNED it, and that it can never be taken away. Not many people are willing to make that committment; but if not me, then who?

"Few can claim the title; no one can take it away. It is yours forever."

Stay motivated, poolees.

Been given one life. That's it. I want to spend it being a part of something much bigger than me. And if I die doing so, I can't think of a more honorable way to die, dying so that others may live in freedom and peace.

Couldn't put it better myself. I mean, hell, we've all got to die eventually. Who wants to live forever anyway? We can die walking down the street because some random schizophrenic decides that we look like a nice, cheesy pizza pie that needs carving. Anything can happen, why not live life full, knowing that you're doing something worthwhile and beneficial to others and not just yourself? I can't think of a better way to go either (not that I'm looking for the quickest exit off the planet, mind you. I like breathing. lol) but yes, being a Marine is one surefire way of knowing you're doing something worth a damn, and living by principals that mean something of significance in this world.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrlmLvPFdg8

It's well worth your time to read through his blog start to finish (ain't that long).

http://davidgoggins.blogspot.com/

Be prepared, I mean this honestly, some of what he writes you may even find disturbing. This man did ultramarathons, ultra bike races, and... He hates it. He says he despises running with every bone in his body. But he does/did it (I don't know if he currently participates in any ultra sports anymore, I know he had some health problems) to see where his limits are, if a human even has limits. He also did it to help kids who's parents died in the wars go to college. Through his efforts he raised more than one million dollars.

An incredible man, you may think what you like about him, but I think he has some valuable lessons that we could all learn from next time we're running an IST, and feeling like slowing down around lap 4... We're capable of far more than we think.

Also BTW the John Glenn speech video is supreme moto.

Did I just hear the call for moto?

I'll do my best to round up some moto, but for now I'll leave you with these:

Here's from the USMC's brothers across the seas.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rbTLkMpV1g

And this is the uncut version of the hecka motivational John Glenn speach posted earlier. I've listened to this (both versions) probably 10 times now.

Don't ever forget that you've volunteered for something noble. Don't ever forget that YOU'RE the one who has volunteered to do something many others would not. Don't ever forget that there's a reason that we go run 'till our lungs are about to burst, do pushups until our arms go dead (then do some more) and do flutter kicks until our freakin' stomachs split open. We do it because we're going to be United States Marines. YOU are going to earn that title, YOU are going to stand proudly with your Eagle Globe and Anchor in front of friends and family on graduation day. We do things that utterly SUCK so that we can be better people, poolees, and someday, Marines.

Keep up the good work Rough Hands, go out again tomorrow and run again, push yourself past your limits, and keep in mind why you're doing it. Don't give up.

Now I'll go see about rounding up some more moto.

I don't have any links or YT vids to post, just my own personal experience. My recruiter plays songs from the new Ozzy CD while we drive from the RS to the field where we do the CFT and all that.

He plays it LOUD. I mean really freakin' loud then tries talking to us on the way there and we're trying to hear what he's saying. He does it on purpose, but it's awesome. Then he will start SCREAMING along with the lyrics and tell us to join in and just let it loose and by the time we arrive, we're the loudest, most motivated car in the lot.

It's awesome.

If you see my past history of threads/posts I've made, I've had problems with pull ups, I've gained 2 so far and up to FIVE freakin' pull ups. I know it's not much as some of you guys here, obviously, but I'm only 2.5 months into the DEP and when I started I couldn't even get 1, I was just hanging straight armed on the bar wiggling about.

"We hump til we die."

Keep up the hard work, no matter how tough things get, it will end at one point, so might as well suck it up, buttercups!

~Burke

Don't want to let this thread die:beer:, most important thing for a Poolee is motivation, sometime the DEP can be a long wait, and remembering your commitment and keeping up with your training is hard some times.

This is an exceptional post Rough Hands great idea, since your ship date has already come and gone hopefully when you come back a MARINE and take a look at this post it will be a lot bigger.

Hopefully if I see you on PI (I leave 20101115) the Drill Instructors wont see me. ;)
