As quickly as our breed is sweeping through the southern and outer lying provinces of Afghanistanimation, I have come to the conclusion that keeping in shape is not always the easiest thing to do with the quickly formed COPs and FOBs that we have established, and are still currently establishing, there at the cyclic rate. So outside our normal, everyday patrolling routine, there’s not much to keep us on the physical fitness edge that we should be on; especially if the **** hits the fan. I’ve come up with a few items you can stuff in your sea bag that won’t take up too much room that you can use to do your own work out stuff. All are tested and highly recommended by yours truly.

The Gyro ball is awesome and can be picked up for about 25 to 35 dollars at a Dick’s Sporting Goods store. You can also get some killer deals online on eBay. The one I have actually lights up when you have reached 13k RPM which is the optimal resistance for a good work out. These things are usually used by serious rock climbers and are an AWESOME forearm workout. I, myself, have ***** wrists that tend to crack and pop when I do normal forearm work outs. This thing usually comes with a tiny DVD that will give you a tutorial and a dozen or so workouts that range from beginner to advanced; this will get you started.

The EXF wrings ($75) are probably the best portable workout item that you’ll ever find. I even use these when I have to travel to obscure hotels in Europe where they don’t have gyms… or anything that resembles a gym. There are literally dozens upon dozens of workouts that you can do with these. I have two sets; one that I travel with and one that’s just hanging out attached to a tree branch in my back yard. They’re just portable gymnast wrings basically. I actually know a SEAL corpsman that only uses these to work out with… he’s also tri-athlete. All you work with is your own body weight so any workout that you can cook up is going to be intense.

The Perfect Pushup is pretty self explanatory. They work similar to a set of dip bars that allow you to have a greater range of motion allowing you to work your chest muscles that much better. There are tons of knock offs that you can pick up for a third of the price; I picked mine up for about 15 bucks at Target. A buddy of mine actually found a set that collapse and can fit into a freakin cargo pocket.

The V-Force weighted vest even comes in Coyote tan and can range up to well over a hundred pounds. Not as portable because of the weight but awesome to run with (or add as a combination to your EXF wrings!!). This actually fairly mimics your full scale battle-rattle without having to put it on and deal with its cumbersomeness.

So hopefully this was informative without being to wordy. As if you guys didn’t already know, sometimes we get sent where there is no gym. These are just some alternatives to… well… nothing. I’ll post pictures below.
