Joe

Awhile back we talked about your Dad and how he was a Navy gunner. I think he could still squeeze off a few rounds if need be

Outstanding photo and please give my best to your Dad and thank him for his many years of service

My dad was missing half a thumb and 2 fingers on his right hand so he couldn't go. Worked thru the war with Diebold Safes making armor plating for tanks. I miss him. He did what he could.

.....Joe, hang on to your Dad, and his memories. That's what I did, and this past April the 17th, my Dad would have had his 101 birthday!! He was a bomber pilot, in the RAF during WWII. He was sent over here to Canada in '43, to train bomber pilots to fly "Mosquito's".
He was a hell of a man!......8798

Doc, I already sent Joe my appology, for not spotting his post, and You and the other Sons, on here, Tell your dads, lf living, " Hello " for me. If not , mention me when you go to visit them. My Dad was in the Army, during WW!. I have no idea, what he did, except that he came home, married my Mom, and produced my brother and me, then drowned, while fishing, in Wisconsin. I was 2yrs old, when that happened, so that's the end of my story.
S/F!! Ken

Greatest generation indeed. My grandfather was in the 71st I.D in Patton's Third Army. I've been researching what they did in Europe. Amazing!
The other grandfather was a sonar man on a destroyer escort during the war. A bit easier to track that ship.
Get as many stories as you can.

My step father just turned 86 and has a very sharp mind full of memories of the wars he's been to. Jay Gilley. Still around and well....married my mom three years ago. 25 years younger than him. Hats off to your father. Soak those stories in. I love to hear them.

Well Taira, he tells me this story any time I get on my Marine roll. He was in Korea, in the Air Force, he was a crew chief on a C-47 and used to run flare missions. He found out that a brother of a friend of his older brother, a Marine Lt. Arty officer, was in the area so he went out to visit him on the line. Now being in the Air Force he knew nothing about Marine artillery so when he got to the Lts area he had no idea that when they sent rounds down range they evenually would have to move so the North Koreans would not zero in on them. The two of them sat up all night drinking a bottle of scotch and smoking cigars most of the night until he ended up passing out in a shelter half. He woke up in the morning and crawled out of the shelter half only to find that they had pulled out sometime during the passout and he was there by himself. To this day he swears he will never give a Marine scotch and a cigar. He did say he was scared ****less being out there hungover in an AF flight suit and a .38

I laughed with him. He thought it was funny. He was a tail gunner in a Navy Dive bomber in the Navy in WWII,in the Pacific, and won't talk about that at all. As Rocky would say " It is was it is", he wears Combat Air Crew Wings with 3 Stars.

He's a typical Irishman, couldn't wait a day to make his presence known. Jamisons loves my family this time of year, not only will my Dad tip a few Irish coffees but my Brother and a niece were born on March 17th.
