Not sure if this should be here or not.
Not Marine nor Military related.
My Friend was in England though.
Dennis Everett of Bishop's Stratford was killed in a train accident
earlier this month.(July).
He was a dear friend that I met here in Oklahoma of all places.
His father lives here and Dennis and I had mutual friends
and that is how I met him seven years ago.
He was much younger than me but it did't matter to us.
Dennis was not a Royal Marine nor was he even in the Military.
I believe his American Father was though.
He loved his visits here to the "back woods" as he and I jokingly
called this rual part of Oklahoma over a few cups as he would say.
Sounded like "coops" when he said it though and I loved it.
He asked me once,"How's your poobs chap"?
I replied that my poobs ain't chapped at all, have another beer Dennis.
To which he expolded laughing and spewing cheap beer all over the
cab of my Dodge truck. He thought I was joking.
I understood after all the laughter that he was asking about our
Pubs. Hell that is a bar to me. He pronounced it "baah"
"Baahs Dan, hows your baahs?" I knew then that Dennis was my Friend.
Dennis actually considered staying here for a time.
He had a very magnetic personality and everyone here loved him.
We all miss him terribly and will continue to do so.
I'm typing this now with a heavy heart and tears in my eyes.
Rest in peace my Friend.

Smitty

I don't think anyone will be bothered that your friend wasn't in the service. He was your friend and that is all that matters.

Peace out to you Smitty and prayers out to Dennis's family

Danny you can retain those happy memories, he was obviously a good friend.

I'll try and find a conversion chart for English regional dialects in the UK to their counterparts in the USofA.

Thank you Rob.
I would be very greatfull.
Dennis was a dear Friend although our time was short.
He was young enough to be my Son almost.
But a hell of a Friend.
Dennis was just one of those people that "lighten"
everything for a time when you are in their presents.
I believe those people are a gift of God.
Sent here when they are needed and then they go on to another
purpose.

Danny, this takes you to the homepage of the BBC regional accent service. I think your friend may have live in Bishop's Stortford, not Stratford, as there is no Bishop's Stratford that I can find. The system runs on Windoze Media Player.

Bishop's Stortford is part of Hertfordshire, but the link page is down, so try the Northamptonshire page, here. (Northants)

Danny,

Marine, military, or civilian....makes no difference... he was a good friend to a Marine. That holds a special place in the world and here as well.

Prayers and sympathies to his friends and family.

Thank you all.
He is in a better place I am convinced.
How could a disguised angel like Dennis not be?
Still and from now on every time I pop the top on a barley pop,
I will think of my Friend and see that big smile we all loved.
Thanks again.
