I saw a documentary about Lima Co. on the History Channel a couple years ago and it was quite the tear jerker, I wish I could remember the title but it escapes me and if anyone knows it please post it here.

This is why I do not like sending a reserve or national guard company into combat as a whole unit. They should be split into different company's. This same thing happened to a Marine reserve company in Utah. Not as bad as Lima Company. In 3 days 3 Marines from the same high school wiped out. They lost a bunch from there 1st tour also.

They fought well, there is no need to separate them. It would destroy there unit cohesion. They trained together, eat at each other homes, they are brothers in every sense of the word. Some being in that platoon or company for over 6 years. They where given a difficult mission and realized it came first. Not them

I haven't read too much about Lima Co...however there are a few grunts at my unit, one of which was from Lima. He said it was the officer leadership (lack there of actually), that got the Marines killed.

Of course I don't know the credibility to this, but I thought it was interesting. The gist of the information was that an officer(s) were leading Marines into a death trap (after several Marines were already KIA), and just kept sending more, all of whom died.

Regardless, RIP to those fallen Marines. Lima Co. is only a few hours from me, and I know it shook Ohio pretty hard.
