Ever been walking along a trail staring at the Garmin and banged your shin on a log, suffering world class pain?

Errr maybe i should have been paying attention to where my feet were taking me, or...

Man, when i first started navigating with GPS i got caught "rimmed", surrounded by stickers, bushwhacking a finger while looking for sign of an old logging road that was in reality quaintly meandering above the draw parallel to my position about 100 yards.> Approached private property after humping a few miles trying to reach what should have been an isolated state park, searched for various points of interest and historical landmarks that may have once existed but if there was any remnants it was now inside somebody's living room or barn. Contour intervals are sometimes ridiculously misrepresented. Yeah it's disappointing and painful at times but very educational.

Garmin's "Topo US" series is full of surprises!? and if it's up to snuff with the National Map Accuracy Standard of no more than 10% inaccurate horizontal and vertical data, i would be surprised, again.

GPS manufactures offer new maps every so often but the reference maps they draw from may not have been updated or field revised in well over a decade
