Have a friend whose son-in-law has been deployed to Afghanistan. He mentioned in an email being quartered in "river city" Any help regarding this reference?

Also he is an Humvee mechanic, could you let me know his MOS so I can do some research and pass it on to her

This is his second deployment but his first since being married. Bride and Mom-in-law are a bit concerned

Basically what river city means is that he cannot contact anyone outside of Afghanistan.

Yep, River City means Reduced or Restricted Communications. Majority of the time, there is secret stuff going that doesnt need to be leaked but sometimes a casualty has been taken and communications are restricted so the Servicemember's family can be notified before some asshat uses his cellphone and spreads the word
