A lot of this is not new to me. As the guy says, the information is available.

I think Lincoln "freeing the slaves" tends to cause his other unconstitutional and illegal acts to be forgiven by historians.

I too think the whole idea of freeing slaves was a cover.

It was an astute political move actually (albeit illegal). It made the Civil War look like a war over slavery to the European countries, with the Union being the Good Guys riding to the rescue and the Rebels the Bad Slave Masters trying to keep blacks under the heel.

Of course, the Emancipation Proclamation didn't free slaves in those slave states not in rebellion. It didn't really free any in the rebellious states for that matter.
