Well, it's about that time. In a few more hours, I will be heading to the armory to draw out my weapon, and will be on my way to the air force base sometime late tonight to sit around in preparation for my departure to Afghanistan.

I wanted to thank all the Marines in the past who have helped me with advice from when I was a wannabe, poolee, and now a Marine. First deployment obviously, so nervous, but excited as well. My family is doing well. My two girls are too young to know what's going on. My 4 year old just thinks I'm going to training like I have the past few months. My wife is being strong, but I know when I depart her tonight, she will be upset. Thank god for other Marine wives and Navy wives she has met here on base.

I will randomly come back on if time prevails with updates on my life in Afghanistan, but can't promise when. Thanks again for the support you have all given me!

The only advice I could offer would pertain to Iraq, and I haven't been back there since 06. All I know is, Helmand Providence is real hot (and I'n not talking about tempature).

Thanks again for the support. Been flying all day and am sitting in Bangor Maine awaiting the next flight to Germany.

No I won't be on leatherneck (except I think for briefs), and of course I can't disclose my upcoming FOB. Really tired but have been taking cat naps on the plane. Spoke with the family via free cellphones supplied to us to borrow here from the USO. My wife and I both appreciated that.

The folks at Bangor are super nice, its actually a little embarrassing...but God bless them (many Bangor greeters are veterans). Oh, they are making a movie about the Veteran greeters at Bangor, Main

From the perspective of a Force Protection Specialist, you can tell your family where you are after the movement is over. You just can't tell people dates, times, locations, troop sizes, etc...especially while the movement is going on. If you parents/family want to know where you are after you get settled in, you can let them know that...but I wouldn't broadcast it on an open forum such as this. But do whatever your BN SOP is.

Anyway, good luck Diz....see you out there in a few.

Yeah, he'll fall under ISAF command, as they're the ones calling the shots out there (ROE's are seriously Fu%ked up--don't get me started). And yes, everyone gets an ISAF ribbon for going to Afghanistan now. My unit got back 6 months ago.

Good luck bro.

Enjoy it and don't be anxious.

5s and 25s haven't heard that in forever. Not sure how relevant my OIFF III advice would be but learn to trust your gut and learn the people so you can tell when ****s about to hit the fan.

Lastly don't be like so many soldiers are and ***** about having no clear mission or how bad it is lol Marines are supposed to kill who cares why.

Thanks again for the kind words and support. Pretty warm out here and all, but what can you expect on an upcoming summer in a desert? Staying motivated as always and it's nice to be able to come to the MWR place to check mail or post on here on occassion just to check in and say hello.

Gummy bears are enroute but what else??

dizark
05-19-10, 10:14 PM
Bulk, I appreciate the support. Be advised... my wife tells me they told us our Unit number was 44070 but instead its supposed to be 44075. Im told that any mail sent to that unit number will make it here.

Things we need... Im not really too sure to be honest. I guess any hygiene gear that my fellow Marines and I would use such as your normal things like Qtips, toothbrushes, etc. Most of my fellow Marines aren't here yet which is why I'm unsure. I came out here on Advon, so we're a skeleton crew right now.

Thanks again and Semper Fi!

Forget the whole 44075 thing I posted. We clarified with the 1 shop that 44070 is still a good address unit number as of now.

Semper Fi.

Nothing Kinetic here, still doing changeover, which is messed up so we are rectifying the issue the best we can.
