Hey Family, I'm at ITB now. I'm in weapons platoon, but we havent done weapons split yet. Im interested in being an 0341 and 0351, but Im having trouble deciding which way i wasnt to go, anyone got advice on how I can solve this dilema, or give me some input?

0351. Shooting the SMAW and breaching doors. Doesn't get any better. Most of the 41's hated their job when I was at ITB. I'm biased though because I'm a 51.

I didn't mind being a '41, just hated the 60mm. Would've much rather been on an 81mm most of the time. Don't think you could go wrong either way. You're still a grunt, just not in a rifle co. With deployments today and the way most everybody is pulling patrols you'll see the same action. Where ever a rifle co. goes, we're either right there with them or not very far behind.

It depends on what you want to do.

I loved being an 0351...it was a small group of guys. Smallest detachment in a Rifle Company. Although we weren't very "specialized". Once we blew our rocket load...so to speak, we become 0311s.

As for 0341s..they are usually always on their own program. They set up and wait for the call for fire. Play some spades and drink hot chocolate.

Although being in a Weapons Company is a completely different experience. Javelins and 81mms. But you can't request that, its up to the needs of the unit you join.

0331 is best, of your two options go with 51 f*ck mortar gun drills on the deck on weekends when everyone else is f*cked up at the beach.

51's. Got to do some pretty wild stuff, back in the day.

Yep, the 81's were usually" in the rear, with the gear", but if you were unlucky enough to be humping a 60, you just might be right up front with the rifles or real close to it. We also usually got saddled with any of the extra stuff the 31's needed but didn't have the manpower to hump. It wasn't bad, but our Co. Gunny usually insisted we be able to out run the rifle co. on most of the force marches.
