Hello fellow poolies,

I am new to this forum and I just wanted to say it is nice to have found this website. After nearly 10 years of trying to get in the Marine corps, my dream of a chance of earning the title has finally come, it has been a long hard road just to get to this point. I will be 27 when I ship to PI, my goal is to get my PFT up and eventually apply to OCS. Nice to meet everyone.

Thanks, I hope I am not the oldest at MCRD, but I will most likely be. Now I just have to get better at pull ups before I ship as I can only do 7 or 8 good ones at the present time:mad:.

Well, When I was 17, I went down to a MEPs for a physical and on the part where they ask about inhaler use, I checked yes for a small case of bronchitis when I was 13 and I also had "valvular heart disease" which I later found out is not really a big deal because alot of people have it that go through bootcamp(its where the valve in your heart doesn't close a perfect 100 percent more like 99 percent). I tried everything in the book to get in, but in the end the tests were just too time consuming and too expensive. A doctor told me that I would never become a US Marine, I did not except that.
I ended up going away to college to become a commercial pilot my other dream and did that for a few years. The airline that I was flying for downsized and I was out of a job, so I went back to teaching people how to fly and enrolled back into college. Oddly enough the movie jarhead came on tv a few months back and resparked my dream and desire to earn the title Marine. After that I went through hell and back with medical tests to prove that I did not have any breathing or heart related issues. The tests were very expensive and for some reason MEPs wouldn't except my FAA civilian flight medical. Then I was told that do to my age and the 51 score on my ASVAB that I was not as competitive but that Did not stop me, I kept persisiting and months later I finally swore in at MEPs, just to be here has been an incredible journey. Now comes the next hard part which is recruit training.
