Hello,
Thank you for allowing family members of Marines post on your site. My Dad passed away in 1995 and one of my ultimate regrets is not knowing anything about his service. He rarely spoke of his service and I was afraid to ask. I never knew how to bring up a subject that may have been difficult for him.

There are some photos of him in my album and below are some additional details. I have several records That I received from Evetrecs and most of the info comes from those records. I have copied the dates as is from the forms.

I would like to meet some Marines who knew my Dad.

Also some of the info I have I don’t understand. ANY help would be very much appreciated. It seems that during his first tour he spent 9 months fulfilling Counterinsurgency Operations. Does this mean he served as a rifleman during this time? It also appears he spent a month as a guard.

While with VMA-211 there is a notation:
1Feb66 ChPriDu Guard (Until 2Mar66 then back to A/CJetEngMech)

This is an abbreviation for Chaser Prisoner Duty/Guard......he either chased(took) prisoners to the brig....or various medical or legal appointments.

Sounds like he pulled a month of TAD (Temporary Additional Duty) then went back to his regular job as a Jet Engine Mechanic.

Thanks for thee info. I thougt it was Change Primary Duty. I really had no idea. Thanks also for the kind words.

I just noticed I never posted his name. Walt Pettit. Served from 1964 until 1973.
