What are the chances of me being able to get laser eye surgery or something similar to that? Also, when after boot camp would be the best time to get it?
Are you able to wear contacts during MCT? My vision was so bad during boot camp I couldn't see during MCMAP since you can't wear portholes.
Thanks!

You're SUPPOSED to wear BCGs through MCT, but if I could get away wearing civilian glasses for most of MCT then you can probably do with contacts. Haha. Worst thing would be trying to take them out/put them in every night/morning. The whole "in the field" thing.

Chances are (supposedly) pretty good on the eye surgery... all you have to do is meet the requirements, get yourself added to the list, and then... well, hopefully it's easy after that. Trying to put in for it myself later this month (you have to be 21 to get the surgery).

Why are you registered as a Marine Friend if you graduated boot camp already?
You may want to use the search bar as lasik eye surgery has been covered before.

Thank you! I got an honorable discharge for failing to qualify with my rifle from boot camp but I'm going back- I don't have a ship date yet. I'm 21 now so I'll be good to go for eye surgery.

If you get the lasik eye surgery, you do know that you'll need a waiver for that, don't you?

Refractive Eye Surgery

This includes (but is not limited to) a history of lamellar surgury, penetrating keratoplasty, LASEK, and LASIK.
Radial Keratotomy and Astigmatic Keratotomy is disqualifying.
LASEK and LASIK is disqualifying if any of the following conditions are present:

(1) Pre-surgury refractive error in either eye exceeds + 8.00 to - 8.00 diopters.

(2) At least 6 months recovery period has not occurred between last refractive surgery or augmenting procedure and MEPS medical examination.

(3) There have been complications, and/or medications or ophthalmic solutions are required.

(4) Post-surgical refraction in each eye is not stable as demonstrated by (a) At least two separate refractions at least one month apart, the most recent of which demonstrates more than +/- 0.50 diopters difference for spherical vision and/or more than +/- 0.25 diopters for cylinder vision; and (b) At least 3 months recovery has not occurred between the last refractive surgery or augmenting procedure and one of the comparison refractions.

I actually went to an eye doctor to see if I qualified for LASIK. I did not- the doctor said I would have to get Phakic Implant Surgery (no laser involved; they basically cut open the eye, put a corrective lense in there and close it back up). I bet that waiver would have a shorter time frame on it than laser eye surgery- it's just whether to wait it out for some months before going to boot camp, or leave sooner for boot camp and get surgery done later.

Get it while you're in. They pay for it and there's no need to worry about a waiver. A lot of folks trying to get in on waivers aren't able to get in anymore since the recruiters just go after "perfect" candidates now, ie no waivers.

Like TinDragon suggested, wait until you're in the Marine Corps. Waivers are hard to come by these days with the Marine Corps beyond its quota.
Good luck to you.

Detectives with the Austin Police department have identified the body of a woman found dead along the shore of Lady Bird Lake nearly two months ago. Police say the body of 24-year-old Magda Warski (also known as Meghann Waranowski) was found near the Mexican-American Cultural Center around 8 a.m. on June 25. Her death was ruled a suicide.

Over the course of two months, police and investigators with the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office used traditional and social media in their search for Warski’s identification.

She had several tattoos on her upper body which indicate a history with the U.S. Marines.
