Ka-Bar vs SOG vs Benchmade vs Gerber

I dont have very much experience with knives, i have a benchmade and a ka-bar but havent used them much. Which maker is better, more reliable and more versatile?

Benchmade is the BEST but most expensive.
Gerber is the best for its price.
SOG are descent but cheap

I have never used a Ka Bar for its intended purpose but have several novelty knives.

Because i'll wear down a knife about every 6 months and appreciate high carbon, resilient, long lasting metal. Japan has been making some of the best tool steel for awhile now.
