Good Evening Marines,
I am a current pooliee out of New York i have my current MOS of infantry special forces. Im looking for a job with non stop action and danger. I love to skydive and do pretty much anything extreme. Do any of you Marines have suggestions as to which MOS is most exhilarating and fun I don't want to be a pencil pusher or a lab rat no offense. I want to be in the field, sky, ect ...
Thank you Marines

Slow down there Devil Pup. Worry about getting through boot camp first.
'Action packed'...the Marine Corps isn't some video game that you play. It's real life situations with real life dangers.

I totally agree WMarine just looking ahead to figure out what would fit my lifestyle there are so many different options that Im just doing research ahead of time. I am totally ready for bootcamp been training for it for the past 3 years Im ready. Just don't want to get there and not have a clue of what I want or what I can and cannot do thats all. Ive heard or Recon and FAST but am confused about MARSOC? what is it ?

If you want plenty of action, packing. Try MOS 3052-Packing Specialist.

Well we used to have Pearl Divers in the Corps, but they now have civilians doing that very exciting job which you might have relished. Maybe you can find something exciting and dangerous after you complete Boot Camp.

I didnt know the USMC had special forces (they are in the Army). I know we have Special Operation Forces (SOF) aka MARSOC. then theres Battalion Recon, & Force Recon. I also know there is no "infantry special forces" contract (unless you mean you have the Recon option in your contract). So dont go around like king-ding-a-ling saying you are going into Marine Special Forces. You are not.
Heres a little info: there are lots & lots of hours of boredom wherever you go. you wont be martin sheen in apocalypse now, or John Cena from "Marine." You dont just walk into Recon or MARSOC & say "hey guys, i jumped out of a plane before. I can hang." like WMarine said, slow down & focus on the 10m target.

For every wanna be out there...Recon is not as action packed as you think. They might have had their hand in the fight a lot more in Iraq, but they have since been moving toward their main objective during OEF. The purpose of a Recon/Marsoc Marine is to provide intell as well as perform specialized missions for either a Battalion CO, Regimental CO, or a MEF or Task Force CO. Their main purpose is not to be seen but rather collect info for follow on missions. Now every once in a while they will get into pretty heated fights, but not as common as your regular infantry unit. If you want 'Action Packed' then maybe it's just a Grunt life you are seeking. Be careful what you wish for, you might get exactly what you want.

Silentwarrior17

That's because they are all "I'm gonna save the world and shoot people and do bad azz things and win medals...and yeah save the world!" Then they get there and I say "Hey Cpl Sully have the Pvt Smith go clean the sh*tter's and then get him over to the Company office because the XO spilled coffee on the floor and needs it cleaned up." LOL

They'll learn soon enough haha. It's not what people make it out to be. But on the other hand the Marine Corps is what you make of it. I always loved seeing Guns running up and down a field yelling and just looking like they were about to die. I would usually go over to their section leader and say "What is this all about?" to which he usually replied "Oh nothing." Haha I always love getting more training in...my guys usually hated me for it. But I see nothing wrong with libo for the weekend being determined by running a 1st class PFT on a friday...just good training. I'm cruel I know.

Silentwarrior17

Yeah it weeds 'em out fast. I hate running a PFT more than anything. I don't know why I hate it so much but it is the last thing I ever want to do. Now that being said, I ran it with them just to...

I have to ask, have you ever talked to Marines in the MOS or read books/researched what it's all about? If you haven't, I HIGHLY suggest picking up some books. I'm currently reading "We Were One" by Patrick K. O'Donnell. So far it's a great read, it's over 3/1's assault on Fallujah in 2004. There are some gruesome details that you should read.

Remember, this isn't a video game, it's real life.

I have talked to Marines who are deployed and home who served there time and retired all and all good and bad they wouldn't give it up for the world and that makes me want it even more to be honest. I will definitely look up the book thanks Marines for the info didn't mean to disrespect if I did.

Be careful what you wish for, you may just get it and find yourself in AG on the receiving end of an IED or AK round.

What people need to realize about certain MOS is that they can be assigned anywhere because they are always needed and one of them is supply which I am partial to because if you don't have your gear you aren't going anywhere so pick supply you will always be doing something and you will always be needed.

And you also have to be aware of..how many Marine infantry units DIDN'T make it to either of the wars?

Since you are so moto, I can only assume that you can score a 300 on the PFT? If not, well you may need to look at other options.

Get in, do your job and quit trying to impress people.

PM sent to ROARK for clarification.

And listen to SoCal kid. And the rest. You *think* you want to see the elephant, and that's all fine and good. But real life ain't 'World of Warcraft'. I don't care how much you read, or how many times you watch stuff on TV.....

Well, you'll learn. It ain't glory and bands playin.
