What date do you ship to boot camp? You have a month and year, but no date. Also, ask your recruiter for a list of MOS's, or even better yet, check in the poolee section of the forum for a list of MOS's.
You may also want to read the site rules while you're at it in the poolee and Ask A Marine forums, too.
When using the word Marines, it will be capitalized at all times.
And you may want to use some proper sentence structure while you're at it - capital letters at beginning of sentences. And yes, to some of us Marines, it is a big deal.

How old are you, Devlin? If you don't mind me asking.

WMarine.. Sorry, i dident know i had to be to the point specific. I am talking to my recruiter about it, but i thought it would be good to get information from someone other then my recruiter. I am goin to read both of those now. Also im sorry about my sentence structure, Writing isnt my specialty..

Smitty Puffs- im currently 20 years old but ill be 21 when i ship out to Boot camp

Don't sweat it, man. Some people on this site care more about that stuff then others. You're better off just doing it though to make everyone happy.

But anyways, I asked your age because I thought you might be a little bit later into your 20's then that. Which wouldn't be the smartest idea for a man trying to keep a family together. THe military has a bad history of screwing those types of things up. Just make sure you make the decision that is not only good for you, but for your family.

I assume you are joining to have a steady job that CAN support your child, which I admire. If that's the case, then I would join an MOS that is going to give you a skill that can be used in the civilian world when you get out. 03xx anything won't get you much out in the real world as far as a good job, unless maybe you were thinking about law enforcement. My best advice would be to go after a trade oriented MOS.

Maybe you should talk to a couple of MP's who were in Saigon during TET and ask them if they thought they were on the front lines. As for Combat Engineers, why do you think the word combat is used? Fun and action packed? You'll have to stick with video games.

I am currently on I&I duty in Mass. I am a 2111, small arms tech. For you Grunts... Armorer. I fix weapons. Its a good job, just the hours suck. But all Jobs in the Corps will have its perks and down falls. Just a matter of what you want to do.

It's up to you...just realize that MP's have both field and garrison side, so if you want to be in the field, you might be stuck being a cop instead.

I was on I&I duty in TX. many years ago.Do they still issue dress blues to everyone and have you do parades, color guards and funerals, along with your regular job?

Lots of good MOS's in the Air Wing that will get you a decent job to support your family when you get out.

There is a large blue issue when you get to the I&I station. The worst part of where Im at is Boston is our AO. All of the color guards, Funerals suck durring the weekend. Durring the week its ok to get a break from the day to day work.

and yes I am still at Devens till next year.

Im Aviation Supply, i fvcking hate it, i got the green weeney. just be sure that whatever MOS you choose is what you want, and not what the recruiter wants, to include "Open-contract". Its a 7-5 job and alot of Marines appreciate Supply guys, but the wing and supply is not for me, the beauty of the Marine Corps is this process called LAT moves.

In the Marine Corps you can get killed in any MOS.

In Vietnam I was with the Wing. My unit's embarkation specialist was killed by a rocket. In the same attack, a large section of the VMA-311 ordinance section was WIA (luckily mostly minor wounds).

I was a truck driver. I was shot at frequently while driving off base, not to mention being under the rocket attacks on the base.

Truck drivers, MPs, combat engineers, all have high combat exposure in Iraq and Afghanistan.

So, if you join the Corps, you never know.
