MILITARY DISCOUNTS UPDATE 01: Lowe's Companies, Inc. recently announced that it is expanding its support of the military by offering a 10% discount 24/7 to all military personnel who are active, reserve, retired or disabled veterans and their family members, with a valid, government-issued military ID card. All other military veterans (non-disabled) will receive the 10% discount only on Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Veterans Day weekends. The discount is available on in-stock and Special Order purchases up to $5,000. Excluded from the discount are sales via Lowes.com, previous sales, and purchases of services or gift cards. In addition, Lowe's has also extended benefits for its employees serving in the military and offers employment opportunities to military personnel after their military service has ended. Currently, more than 12,000 Lowe's employees are military veterans or reservists. [Source: EANGUS Minuteman 26 Feb 2010 ++]

Where did you get that list RI? There are more than a few on there that I had no idea gave discounts. Is that company wide, or at the discretion of the owner of each location?

What type of military id is acceptable. I am a diabled vet to the tune of 20% but only have a VA id card unless I carry my letter notification around with me. Like Marine Shu I had no idea of any of this.
Thanks for the heads up.

Heck, I didn't even know there was a VA ID card. How does one go about getting one? And what does it say? I don't go to the VA for medical care, but it'd be nice to have some kind of ID for the times when proving I'm a veteran come in handy.

It's the medical card that they issue when you apply for medical benefits.

Interesting, I don't think I ever received one, but then again, everything was handled for me through the DAV and I haven't been back since. My civilian insurance is pretty good so I've never had reason to return to the VA since having my disability settled. Thank you for the info.

If you like Verizon over AT&T, it looks like they give discounts too.

"Based on your email address, we have found that you may be eligible to receive discounts on Verizon Wireless products and services through the GOVERNMENT OF UNITED STATES employee program. In fact, you could save:
Up to 15% off the monthly access fee on qualifying voice plans of $34.99 or higher.
Up to 25% off of accessories."

Pretty sure you can get this discount if you just talk to someone in person as well, but looks like you can apply the discount immediately if you have access to a usmc.mil email address.

It is at the Discretion of each owner/manager but i never had a problem:thumbup:.
If you don't ask, you don't receive but I'm not the Asking Kind of Marine. When i'm finished at any store I go to I just simply take out my ID card and say very politely " I'd like to use my 10% Off Military Discount Please ".

Noone has ever said "We don't do that here".

I have differant cards in my wallet but the one I use is my VA Health Care Card because it has my picture on it.

Use it, you've earned it!!!

Rocky
