Hello Marines,

First, thank you for taking the time for looking at my thread and answering my questions.

I was wondering how MOS's work in the Marine Corps, if you get to pick them, etc.

Also, what are some tips on getting the MOS you want like a certain date you should go into a recruiter's office.

I was also wondering about becoming a Marine Officer. If an officer could talk to me about this that would be great.

Thank you Marines.

And being that you're only 15 years old, gives you plenty of time to make a decision on which path you want to choose.....enlisted of officer. I believe you have to wait until you're a high school senior to actually sit down with a recruiter and get more in depth on what you want to do. All you can do now is just ask recruiter for info, nothing else.
So...stay in school and get good grades, and most importantly, get that high school diploma...and if you decide to go to college, get that degree!

Yes mam. Yeah we have a recruiter who comes into our high school, but wouldn't even talk to me when I walked up to him. haha

As far as the high school senior thing goes... as soon as you officially finish junior year you can talk to him. I know a lot of people that go sign up during that summer in between. Makes it a lot easier actually, especially if you'd need a waiver or something. Just something to keep your mind on if you wanna join ASAP. ;)

I'm also wondering if there is a date that I should go talk to a recruiter and pick an MOS. Like a certain date that the quotas for recruiters restarts leaving slots needed for certain MOS's. That way i can be one of the first to pick from any of the MOS I would be qualified for.

When you're done with your junior year in high school.

No, I didn't say that it restarts in the summer. All I said is that you cannot talk with a recruiter until you are done with your junior year of high school, that's all.

Okay. I heard that the quotas for recruiters restart in October. Is that right?

I was also wondering about becoming a Marine Officer.

please, for the love of all that is holy dont become an Officer.

unless you want to do paperwork all the time. if you just want to go out and kill, enlist and go Infantry rah?

Although I respect Infantry, I don't think its for me. I don't think I'll become an officer because I definitely want the Parris Island experience, and I didn't know officers didn't go to regular boot camp. I've been looking into Intel, The President's Own, or maybe something with helicopters. Not exactly sure. As it's been said, I haven't been able to talk to a recruiter and figure out what I want just yet.

Thats cool. I love intelligence, i did it as a side job in the fleet. remember, presidents own is crazy difficult to get into, and you need a college degree, and helos are cool...but i had some crazy experiences with those in Iraq :D

Crazy experiences? Like? An I'm pretty sure intelligence is for me. But I'm still looking.

Actually it is October 1st every year. So October 1st of your Senior year, go talk to your local recruiter. Keep an ear out for when your school does the ASVAB, because you may be able to take that as early as January of your Junior year.

Ok. Thanks. My school is actually giving the ASVAB test in a couple days. Luckily my science teacher is a Marine so Im always getting a little motivation everytime I go to 6th period. Haha
