According to my recruiter, currently the USMC is only accepting those with only a high school education into the reserves.

I am in this situation, but I would like to get training in certain fields, specifically one of these:

2141 Assault Amphibious Vehicle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amphibious_Assault_Vehicle) (AAV) Repairer/Technician - GYSGT-PVT
2146 Main Battle Tank (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tank_classification#Main_battle_tank_.28late_twent ieth_century.29) (MBT) Repairer/Technician - GYSGT-PVT
6113 Helicopter Mechanic, CH-53 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CH-53_Sea_Stallion) - GYSGT-PVT
6122 Helicopter Power Plants Mechanic, T-58 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Electric_T58) - GYSGT-PVT

My recruiter told me that I can not have an MOS that I could not train in my residing city.

Is this true?

Also, is it possible for me to be a scout sniper in the reserves?

The previously listed MOS's offer a considerable enlistment bonus, but I would like to be a sniper if at all possible.

Here's a link for you to check out on S/S. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scout_Sniper You can do it in the reserves, but realize that you are going to have to go 03XX in order to do that. The S/S are part of the BN in H&S Co. You will have to wait until an indoc comes up and even then you have to pass that. S/S school is one of the hardest schools the Corps has to offer. The wash out rate at the school is around 50%, and that is of the marines who just make it there. I have some of my buddies who have went to the school and not all of them actually graduated with the 8541 (0317) MOS. Think about getting ready for boot and of SOI before you want to reach for somehthing like that. You have a long way to go before that is in your grasp. Good luck.

You need to get some kind of waiver if your desired drill location is a certain distance form your home (I think). To make things easier, they will try to put you into the nearest drill site...making your MOS dependent upon what is available at that location combined with Marine Corps needs.

Of the infantry which offer bonuses, the MOS's are:

0311 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MOS_0311) Rifleman (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rifleman) - SGT-PVT
0313 LAV (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LAV-25) Crewman - SGT-PVT
0321 Reconnaissance Man (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Marine_Air-Ground_Task_Force_Reconnaissance) - MGYSGT-PVT
0352 Anti-tank Missileman (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-tank_guided_missile) - SGT-PVT

I noticed that 0313 requires 0311, as well as 0321 has pre-requisites as well. Training is my goal, so to get as much as possible would be ideal.

Reconnaissance sounds appealing to me. Should all infantry MOS's be available in my state?

WMarine, I looked at the links you posted, but I do not understand how to see what MOS's are available.

I know that what opportunities are available is contingent on my performance. I want to set the bar high, because I believe I am capable.

BTW, I go to MEPS in two weeks.
