A Memorial Service honoring the servicemen killed during the October
23, 1983 bombing of the Marine Barracks, Beirut, Lebanon will be held
in front of Mentor City Hall(Mentor, Ohio) at 6PM, Thursday October
23,2003.
This marks the 20th Anniversary of the attack, one of the few
unprovoked attacks against Americans on foreign soil.
Members of the Col. J.M. Chambers Detachment #555 Marine Corps League
will Present this service which also will honor the 15 Mentor area
servicemen who perished in the Vietnam crisis.
It will be open to all who wish to attend, and there will be no
admission for the service.
Following the ceremonies an open house for all those who attend will
be held at the Col. J.M. Chambers Detachment #555, Marine Corps
League building at 8720 Twinbrook Rd. Mentor, Ohio

SgtMaj. Herman F."Humble Herm" Lange Sr.,55 of lung disease in Aloha, Ore.
He was a Vietnam Vet wounded by a land mine while serving with 3rd Recon Bn in 1966. In 1972 he became a broadcaster in the public affairs occupational Field.
His assignments took him to AFRTS on Okinawa and with the 24th MAU in Beirut, Lebanon, where on Oct.23rd 1983, he was wounded during the terrorist attach at the Marine Barracks.
In 1989 he served with 1st Tank Bn during Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He was Sgt Maj. of 3rd AA Bn during Operation Restore Hope in Somalia and later, SgtMaj of RS Portland,Ore. He Retired in 1997 with 29 years of service.
His Awards include 2 Purple Hearts, 2 Navy Commendation Medals, 3 Navy Achievement Medals,an Air Force Commendation Medal and the Combat Action Ribbon with 3 Stars.
