I clearly remember my promotions to L/Cpl and Cpl. L/Cpl wasn't as big of a deal as I had only been in Vietnam for a couple of weeks or so and my days were pretty crammed up with things to do.
Cpl was very nice as it was meritorious and I got the crap beaten out of me with all the tagging on. One really bad part of being in an aviation unit is the high percentage of NCOs, SNCOs, and Mustang officers. And they all wanted a shot. I didn't mind a bit as it was a big step to take.
