Hello Marines, I am currently serving in the army and plan to enlist in the Marine Corps when my time is up with the army. I have already talked to a recruiter and he said i should be good to go. I must be infantry, I really want to be 0331. Is it at all possible to pick my actual MOS or just the field I want , and if I can only pick the field what is the best way to try and get the MOS I want , (0331) ? I really want to be a Marine, I am always so impressed with how professional and squared away you guys are! Thank you for the help.

As far as I know, only reservists can pick their exact MOS. For everyone else it's the needs of the Corps.

Why didn't you join our beloved Marine Corps first instead of the army? I see you didn't capitalize army either, lol.

lol I had to prior service guys from the army in my platoon. I am unsure if the combat vet got to pick his MOS or not. All I can say is try to get into that field then thank the Marine Corps for whatever job they give you...assuming you make it far enough to be issued a job.

You likely won't get to choose your MOS 'specifically' but can choose your field.

I'd guess you have some time to think about it though...gotta love the army, always incurs regrets in those it sucks in LOL.

Oh, and 'army' isn't required to be capitalized. Marine Corps is. That's according to the 'stylepoints' and isn't just something we dreamed up LOL

Well thanks for the info I thought I heard that reservists can pick their actual mos but I want to go active anyway. I just really want to be infantry so if I can't get 0331 at least I can be in the field I want!! As to why I did not enlist in the Corps in the first place, I really did not think the army was going to be like it is. It seems to just keep getting worse, discipline is almost nonexistent and the majority of the leadership is **** poor at best. The training we conduct is for the most part worthless and we hardly ever shoot our weapons. I am not in the combat arms field so I can not speak for them, I sure as hell hope they are not as jacked up as we are, I really do not think our company is even capable of defending ourselves. But any way I can go on and on about the army I don't want to be a Marine because the army is so jacked up, I want to be a Marine because I want to be a Marine!! The battle history of the Marine Corps is just awsome, the pride and confidence that you guys exude is admirable, and how can you deny those uniforms dress and fatigue. I just can't wait to go to boot and get started thanks guys.

While I would disagree with you that the Army has really good training facilities and evolutions, I couldn't agree more on the discipline. I was the student platoon sergeant at Jump School in Benning (started with 202 ppl. in my platoon), and I literally had to break up fights between SFC's and Specialists. Both were calling each other an fing b*tch, and generally carrying on like children. No discipline whatsoever. Oh, and the hardest thing to get those people to do was to clean up after themselves and actually clean themselves. I had to make guys take showers. Its no wonder the Army cadre almost always choose Marines to be platoon Sgts. at Jump.
