Okay my initial join was to go in as an 0231 but it seems that I need a criminal waiver to even get into the Marines. So the recruiter said that 0231 needs a security clearance an that means I can...

I am currently in the process in getting my TSC. It would probably be tough getting it with a criminal background, but it does seem that if you are honest with everything you tell them, you still may be able to get your clearance.

Probably not the smartest thing you ever did to tell the world you are getting a TSC...

What's the problem with answering a question on this forum? As an 0231, you will have complications that will probably hinder or if not, stop you from getting a TSC.

I don't know if they will grant you the TS clearance or not, but it is possible to lat move into the mos you want after two years in the fleet. You would still need to qualify for the mos in order to switch over. If you can't get the clearance now, you won't get it later.

My recruiter is trying to say that if I be a model Marine for two years than I can make a lateral move, I just have prove myself an I just want to know if thats possible an if not I wouldn't mind waiting 4 years an re-enlisting as an 0321. Thankyou for your help.

If the only thing you have on your record is some piddling little alcohol thing, it's not a bar to a TS/SCI clearance.

And, IMO, you are better off getting some time to mature in the Corps before becoming an Intelligece Specialist. It'll help out, believe me. I did nearly 3 years as an '03 before Lat moving into 0231 at the end of my first enlistment.

I dont just have some piddling alcohol thing, Its a history stemming from when I was 17 to 21 and in that time Ive had a poor driving record as well, Since then I have learned my lessons and what to do good with my life.

Ahhhh. In that case, you might very well have an issue. However, if the Corps takes a chance on you, and you keep your nose clean, then you might be able to do that lat move.

But I think the Corps will be less likely to take a chance on a guy right off the street with the risk of wasting time/money for an investigation slot vice someone already in the Marine Corps. I forgot you guys could go 0231 straight out of bootcamp. I bet this is a common problem then...so if you ask around, you will prob. find some 0231's who've gone through it. If you had to be, say, and NCO first...like Leprechaun was...you would have SNCO's/Officers who know you that could push your SSBI package through, post whatever screening req there is for the MOS.

I have a question for you Kcperkins, now that the Marines here have given you advice, when do you plan on taking the ASVAB, that is, if you already haven't, and DEPing in?
Just curious.......

Bingo. "Back in the day", Intel was a lat move ONLY MOS. You couldn't just enlist for it. And it did make a difference, IMO. But, realistically, the career field couldn't survive that way, so it was changed around 1985 or so to become a 'primary' enlistment MOS.

The Navy just did that with their SEALs not too long ago....it's its own source rating now, whereas before you had to have some level of experience doing another job first (SEAL being like a BMOS...which sucked b/c they promote based on tests, so my buddy who was a SEAL for five years had to take a test to promote to PO1 based on a PO1's knowledge of being an electrician for their whole career).

I have taken the practice which I scored a 75 and right now I have a book that I have just been reviewing. I talked to my recruiter and he said that I can take it after the holidays. My recruiter is Ssgt Ford and I have worked out with the poolees.
