Good evening, a few quick questions for any Marines with experience

As a Reservist 5811, how long is the average deployment? I'm under the impression there's about 3 months training, followed by a 7 month deployment, coming out to roughly 10 months, am I correct?

Also, about every how many years does a Reserve Unit usually deploy? On a 3x5 contract should I expect to deploy just once?... I know this isn't guaranteed but if anyone wants to share from experience it'd be appreciated

Thank you all for for the help

10 months sounds about right. Are you sure you are on a 3x5 contract? We dont give those out too much, I have been on Recruiting duty for 9 years and have never seen anyone do a 3x5. Good on ya if you got it. I was just curious. The reserve centers around me deploy about every 3 years or so.

Not yet i'm not Sir... Any suggestions on how to convince a local recruiter to give me 3x5? Is it their choice? Not too sure how it works

ok 4/4 i heard of never a 3/5 there is also a 6/2 which actually gets u some beni's ok as a reservist your orders have u for a year but yes its usually 3 months then 7 months in country 5 day de-mob and a month at the RTC. Now u can choose to stay on for the full year just working like a normal marine or cut and run as soon as possible

The reason I asked about the 3x5 is because I have never heard of it. We have 4x4, 5x3, and 6x2. The only time you rate the GI Bill is the 6x2. I will check the reserve SOU and clarify, but I think we also did away with the 5x3 this Fiscal year.

Understood Gunnery Sergeant. Only reason I was interested in that time length is because I heard rumors of Marines near me on similar contracts. 3x5 would be nice but if not 4x4 is fine.

Bootcamp + training takes a big chunk out of contract time anyway, Correct?

Thanks

It should take up about 5-6 months.

If you're going to enlist in the Reserves, you might as well do the 6x2. Have you checked out the Post-9/11 GI Bill? You're almost payed to go to school. Just something to consider. Check it out.
