GOPUSA Special Announcement -- Young Patriots Essay Contest
August 14, 2002

Young Patriots Essay Contest

In the wake of September 11, GOPUSA realizes the need to inspire and strengthen the American spirit for what is surely the long fight ahead. GOPUSA also believes in America's youth and supports the goals and objectives of our legislators to improve literacy and education.

In the Young Patriots Essay Contest, GOPUSA seeks to deliver a message of patriotism through the words of America's youth. The contest will consist of an essay on the topic "What it means to be an American" and will be open to 10th, 11th, and 12th graders across the country.

The contest will begin on Labor Day (September 2, 2002) and run until Election Day (November 5, 2002).

A state winner will be chosen from all essays received in that state. Five national finalists and an overall national winner will be determined from the state winners. Contest winners will be announced in January 2003. The overall national winner will receive a $2,000 savings bond from GOPUSA. All state winners will receive a certificate and have their names, schools, and essays published on the GOPUSA web site.

Conservative notables Ann Coulter, Dinesh D'Souza, and David Horowitz have agreed to help judge the essays.

Please spread the word about the contest to your friends and colleagues. An informative flyer is available for download from the GOPUSA web site and provides an easy way to get the information out to clubs, organizations, and schools.
