Hi, this is my first post. I'm very interested in becoming a Marine, but I want more information about both of these, becoming a Sniper, and becoming a MP, and then SRT. I have done a lot of reading about becoming a sniper, but none of it really answers my questions. Most of what I read says you have to have Expert Riflemen, or something along those lines. What exactly qualifies as expert? What are the physical requirements for this? Any details about both would help a lot. Thanks ahead of time.

Fill out your profile their young jedi...

I will let you know right now becoming a sniper is no easy row to ho, you have to be selected for that once you hit the fleet in an infantry company. MP you can enlist into, not sure about SRT. As far as qualifying as expert on the rifle range...listen to your PMI and coaches, utilize what your taught and you won't have a problem

Your shooting at Boot does not really qualify you to be a Sniper straight off the bat. Believe me, i had TWO Scout Sniper SNCO and on top of it I had a buddy of mine who went to a Sniper PLT after ITB because it was in the needs of the Marine Corps. This guy shot Marksman at boot and was just a 11 looking to go to the Fleet.

The day we were told what units we were going to, guess what happened to him when he showed up to his unit? He was volun-told he's being assigned to a Sniper PLT instead.

Also you're not singled out it until you hit the fleet, and there youre given a shot at it by a SNCO or Instructor. It's a LONG journey, finish boot, wrap ITB hit the fleet and STAND BY.

For sniper like said before you must shoot expert. You also need a first class pft, your chain of command must approve you going to the indoc. Most units require one deployment to prove yourself. Thats only if your battalion sniper platoon has spots to fill. My unit pretty much picked who they wanted before hand. They would find a way to make you quit or drop you during the indoc if they didnt like you or didnt want you.

SRT is a pretty hard job to get. Its a secondary MOS for Military Police. They usually select Corporals and above, although LCpl's are allowed. Usually an expert rifle and expert pistol score is required. Once you hit the fleet as an MP, you would have to try out for SRT. I don't really know too much about it but that is what they explained to us in MP school.

depending on your base there is a full time SRT team or a part time team. It is a secondary MOS so once you finish MP school and obtain the MOS of 5811 and get to the fleet you can TRY OUT for the team and be sent to SRT school. It's not a guarntee and you have to do alot of OJT (on the job training) with the team and volunteer alot of time for them to pick you to go to school. My team here is a part time team and they only train like 2-3 times a month a full time team trains everyday.

I think being in SRT, or anything of that nature would be pretty high speed. I would've loved to do that. I tried to get fapped out to PMO once, to get a secondary MOS. Didn't get it though, I got stuck doing Prisoner Escort, and Battalion Police Sergeant. My MOS was 1833 Amphibian Assault, I only did my actual MOS for about 9 months. Then I got put in the Company Office doing Admin, and then moved to Bn level as Police Sergeant. Moral of the story, needs of the Marine Corps. Semper :marine:
